No problems cutting this down to size. It only took a few minutes with diagonal cutters and a box cutter. However, the plastic tabs that hold the frame in place stick up so that the frame is actually a little thicker than a regular disposable filter. My filter had to slide into a slot that did not provide much leeway, so it would not fit. Since I had already cut it to fit, I could not return it. I wound up gluing it with my hot glue gun and cutting off the tops of the connectors with a box cutter.

Bought this in store when my regular disposable filter was not in stock. Product states it's easy to assemble, all you need are scissors. The picture shows cutting the filter padding, not the grids. My scissors would not cut the plastic grids and I ended using a lot of force and culinary scissors. Have arthritis in my hands & would never have purchased if I had known I was going to have to cut the plastic grids. Can't comment on how well it works yet, but am concerned about another reviewers comments on dog hairs not rinsing off. I have two large, shedding dogs. If I am unable to rinse the filter thoroughly, this filter will be trashed and I'll go back to my un-eco friendly throw away filters.

I have an furnace with a nonstandard filter size. I bought this because it can be adjusted. The quality of the filter itself is good, and the design seemed simple until I tried it.
The adjustment is in 1" increments - no 1/2".
It feels rather flimsy in holding the square or rectangle shape with some pop in plastic rivets.
You also have to cut the filter and screen to size.
I got it sized and working, but I doubt it was according to the directions. It was more work and time than I anticipated. Other models slide and require no end-user engineering.
That said, I needed a finer filter than the coarse one that came with the furnace, and this did the trick once I kludged it.

I was hoping to save some landfill space, but all I did was waste time. Hosing the filter off just moved the pet hair around, even when using high pressure and pulling clumps off manually.
The only way this would work is if I sat down with tweezers and cleaned each square individually.
Choose functional & convenient over 'feel good' labeled products that don't work.
This might be effective for a household with no pets in a low-dust environment.
