Product Overview

The Sidemount Plus Fan Box allows you to safely install your ceiling fan or lighting fixture without having to access attic space. The box's design provides secure attachment to an existing ceiling joist. It is ideal for installation during new construction or remodeling, and can be installed in finished ceilings through a hole large enough to fit the box. The Sidemount Plus features a heavy-duty, all-metal, 2-1/8 in. deep, dual-mount electrical box with 21-1/2 cu. in. capacity. To install it in a finished ceiling, simply mount the bracket to a joist through a 4 in. hole in the drywall, pull the wire into the box, and remount the box to the bracket. The sidemount bracket is removable for easy replacement of existing nail-on boxes without attic access. The kit is UL listed to support fans and light fixtures up to 70 lbs. It includes 10-24 threads for heavier fans and fixtures and 8-32 threads for cover plates and lightweight lighting fixtures. Product reference number 01240.

21.5 cu. in. Remodel Ceiling Fan Sidemount Plus Fan Box is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a great product I have installed this product twice. Each time I have been disappointed. If the ceiling is strapped (as most in New England are) then the box will not sit flush with the face of the 1/2" ceiling. If you try and slide the box low enough to bring the box flush with the ceiling then the box is not stable. I gave it a second chance on another install, I wish I hadn't.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from tough install, no improvement Got this fan box to strengthen a fan installed where a fixture was before. Box felt sturdy but the end result still had a lot of movement up/down opposite the install side. The strain relief clamped the wire to a sharp edge which seemed like a bad idea... End result, spent 4 hours retrofiting the box to no apparent improvement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money - spring for the full cross-bar support Used four lag bolts into a solid truss member, and this box still has a deflection to it, which translates to a fan wobble at high speed. I'm going to have to now take it all apart and replace with a proper brace that spans two members. Save your time and money and spring for the full support. This would be fine for a heavy light fixture but not for a fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very rugged fan box. Very satisfied. Very rugged box that got the job done. No complaints at all. I would have given 5 stars, but the #10 screws included to hold your fan bracket seemed to be slightly off in their fit and form but in the end, it was a very rugged installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Don't install the bracket upside down. It is not designed like that. The box works with the bracket to add support to specified fan weight value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incorrect screws provided Fan bracket mounting screws provided were wrong thread size, snapped off when tightened.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor design and had to re-tap one of the of the bolt holes So I wanted to use the brace rod, but for whatever reason in this room the span between joists was over 24 inches. If took a while to get the box up due to tight wires. There are only a few standard opening in this box to run wire into it and they are poorly located. For remodel refit kits manufacturers need to remember that most existing wiring does not have a lot of slack so having plenty of hole in the right places is important. One of the holes for the fan bolts was not threaded well and I had to go but. 10-24 tap to retread it as after wrangling this in place I was not taking it out. Another bad design choice was the location of the bolt holes that mount the box to the bracket is right where the wires come in, making getting a socket on it impossible. I eventually wrangled this thing into place, but next time will consider other options even opening ceiling to get better access.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality bolts Both of the included bolts broke while ratcheting into a stud. Once the mount was installed, the bolt to tie down the junction box snapped under very little pressure.
