Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RC No regrets, love this Honda self propelled mower
Purchased from Home Depot last spring and cannot believe we waited this long to finally get a Honda mower. Easy to start, use and maintain. We have very thick Zoysia grass and this strong motor cuts right through that and pulls well on those hilly areas. If you are handy, this unit is a breeze to work on. We use ethanol free fuel and Mobil-1 Oil in the motor after the break in. This unit is also outstanding for mulching up those Fall leaves as well. Have owned several brands of mowers over the years, but this Honda beats them all. Does everything as advertised.. A very well engineered and quality unit, worth every penny spent. If you have to be out there working anyway, it might as well be a little fun.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JB Lawn looks like a carpet!
I had a 20" push Lawn Boy for awhile to just knock down a patchy lawn. Years later I put in sod, became a yard nut, and began obsessing over having the best lawn on the block. That Lawn Boy just wasn't up to the task of cutting thick, moist turf, and eventually I got this machine. I wanted a machine that didn't leave lines, clumps, stragglers, and left an even cut in just one pass, and that's exactly what I got! This thing mulches the grass into tiny bits that just disappear into nutrients for the lawn. If you're serious about mowing your lawn, then this is the machine! It's literally the Cadillac of lawnmowers, the 190cc engine is awesome, and will leave your lawn with a professional appearance. Buy with confidence.

Recently purchased this Honda mower so it's only been used a few times. Despite the price, this is a great quality machine compared to others in the same category. Set up was very easy and like many of the other reviewers, started on the first pull. The Select Drive and mulching are great. I have a large back yard and teetered on deciding on a small riding lawn mower, but this Honda makes quick and easy work of it. I attached a few pictures to show the size yard I'm talking about.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gardner007 Better than the HRR216
I had the HRR216 model for 3 years, with mostly satisfactory results. Blade hit a stump, bent the shaft and the deck housing. That mower had some poor design that gave me grief.: the drive belt clogging, trail of clippings on left side, fair mulching quality, speed adjustment with "thumb drive" was unfriendly. The HRX217 is much improved. The deck housing of HRX217 has better swirl design to keep the grass in the blades for fine mulching, does not building up on one side and leave a trail of clippings. More coverage of the belt drive to avoid clogging when heavy mowing or small twigs are encountered. Speed control is easiest to use of all brands. I never bag, so I cannot comment on that. Still skeptical about the synthetic deck material, time will tell. Note this mower is longer than the HRR216 and somewhat ungainly.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by windjunki After once use it won't start
I read the reviews and was concerned about the poor reviews but believed there were enough excellent reviews to purchase this mower. We used it one time and it worked awesome, except for one time when we turned it off to carry on a conversation with the neighbor and then went to start it and it took a few pulls to get it started. That was a "hmmm" moment. Then next time we went to use it, 10 days later, it won't start, and yes there was gas and oil in it. At first the pull was locked or frozen. then after moving the mower around a little thinking something needed to be disengaged, it would pull, but not start the machine. I went to the manual to see if there was a trouble shooting section for the pull and there was nothing. I called up Home Depot and asked if could return it and they said yes, just remove the gas first. I was willing to get an exchange and hope for the best, but they didn't have any in stock. So I'm out a lawn mower and now searching for another one. I truly don't think I will buy another Honda. The features are great, but if it don't run..... Plus the deck on the sides is very cheap, we brushed the sides against a rock wall and it cut grooves into the deck. Not the quality I was expecting, mild scratches is one thing, but this was grooves. Our old Toro held up well with that wall.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DIYMinooka Good product
I have used the mower once since purchased. It operates great, but the price is a little high for not have an electric start. All I had to do is take it out of the box, add gas, oil that was provided and pull the string a few times to get it going. I think I had to pull more than once on the string because the gas needed to work its way to the carb.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by mechman Average Features and terrible support from Honda!!
I bought this mower last May from Home Depot. I initially ran the mower for 5 mowings and then changed the oil and plug. I then ran it for the rest of the season with no issues whatsoever. I changed the oil and plug again last fall and drained the gas from the carburetor. Fast forward to a month ago. The mower being less than a year and a half old starts to run extremely rough. I shut the mower off and bring it to my garage. I start looking over things and cannot find anything wrong - good gas flow, spark plug is fine and the choke seemed to be working. I also checked the oil. By the markings on the dipstick, it was full. I decided to bring it in to my service center and have them fix it.
According to Honda, I ran the engine without enough oil in it and that caused something inside the motor to seize up and stop working. Honda says that is not covered under warranty. So I now own a boat anchor...
So apparently $600 and what one would think is a good brand name doesn't get you anything! I will no longer be purchasing anything with the Honda name on it. Absolutely ridiculous when you follow their rules to a "T" and then they don't honor their warranty!
STAY AWAY FROM HONDA!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SD Compared to Toro
I compared to Toro recycler AWD. Very tough call. The Honda won due to mulching slightly better. The propulsion controls work easier on ditches. And the control bar multiple adjustments . Traction up hills is fine
