Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jekz Replacement for GE Model SG40T12TxK00
I saw a review that said that this worked for GE SG40T12TXK00 (the same model I have). I installed this and it worked! The pilot light stays lit now, where as before, once I let go of the pilot light gas thing, it would go out. For the price, just replace the thermocouple vs cleaning the old one, it will save you headaches in the long run taking the water heater apart.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by blakefoundation Works for GE water heater.
Dont be fooled by the plumber or the sales people at the plumbing supply places. This works for GE water heaters. I was told by a plumber that I had to call GE and wait for the part. I went to a plumbing supply store and the told me the same thing. That GE does it on purpose so don't waste my time trying to buy it at Home Depot. I was going to believe them but took the chance after reading that it works on GE water heater. It was a different model. Well lo and behold it worked just fine. I had hot running water and didn't have to wait several days to contact GE and then several more days for the part. So go out and buy this product. It works for GE water heaters!!!!!!! I normally don't take the time to write reviews but I want to help other people not get fooled.

No hot water on a cold spring day. Quick trip to Depot and a small investment, took about 5 minutes to install. Hot water again!

my six year old water heater pilot light would not stay lit. Very simple to replace the prior thermocouple with this universal replacement. Fixed the problem right away. Very pleased.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HoneyDo1 Totally solved the problem!
There's not much to it. In most cases, if the pilot won't stay on, it's the thermocouple. With the help of some very good Youtube instructions, the replacement went very well. Just be careful with the components that don't need replacement, like the pilot gas tube and igniter.
