Answer:
I installed a pair of these on my two State industries GS640BRS (built in May 2014). It appears that these are truly universal thermocouples kits. (Home Depot was closer and cheaper than SearsParts).

What size wrench is needed? HD always tells us what color things are and how much they weigh, but they never mention things you need to know to install it. Well, at least they carry the thing and people do not have to order it.

Answer:
A small wrench kit will work just fine. Or buy a small to mid size adjustable wrench and that should solve it.

Answer:
Finger tighten your 3 fittings then snug up with adjustable wrench. Be careful not to pinch tubing. To check for leaks apply a little soap/water mixture and look for bubbles.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works for GE water heater. Dont be fooled by the plumber or the sales people at the plumbing supply places. This works for GE water heaters. I was told by a plumber that I had to call GE and wait for the part. I went to a plumbing supply store and the told me the same thing. That GE does it on purpose so don't waste my time trying to buy it at Home Depot. I was going to believe them but took the chance after reading that it works on GE water heater. It was a different model. Well lo and behold it worked just fine. I had hot running water and didn't have to wait several days to contact GE and then several more days for the part. So go out and buy this product. It works for GE water heaters!!!!!!! I normally don't take the time to write reviews but I want to help other people not get fooled. July 5, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy fix my six year old water heater pilot light would not stay lit. Very simple to replace the prior thermocouple with this universal replacement. Fixed the problem right away. Very pleased. September 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Totally solved the problem! There's not much to it. In most cases, if the pilot won't stay on, it's the thermocouple. With the help of some very good Youtube instructions, the replacement went very well. Just be careful with the components that don't need replacement, like the pilot gas tube and igniter. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Let the hot water flow! Woke up thus morning to no hot water.... checked the water heater pilot light is out and will not reignite..... did some research online and discovered the most likely cause is a bad thermocouple. Ran to my local HD picked one up, ran home installed the new 12 buck thermocouple and wula! GLORIOUS HOT WATER!! Dodged a huge bullet! A new water heater would of been 419.00 + October 15, 2014
