Answer:
I wouldn't do it. Once you remove the plastic, your area rug will have a residue that will collect dirt and hair.

Answer:
No, it says on the package not to apply to hardwood floors. I think the same company has a green film that is for hard surfaces.

24 in. x 200 ft. Carpet Shield Self Adhesive Film is rated 2.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from So sticky I was sure afraid it would damage the carpet when removing The adhesive is way too aggressive. We could barely get the plastic off the new carpet after 3 days. The plastic stretched and ripped while trying to pull it up. It would not continuously come off in one sheet as you would expect. It took 4 people hours to pick away at it. This might be a good idea but find another brand. There is no reason for a super sticky adhesive.

We applied this film to a totally dry carpet in an air conditioned house. It was only down for a few days, just long enough to move in furniture and boxes. When we pulled it up, the adhesive transferred to the carpet pile and now it's acting like a magnet for dust and dirt! The carpet "shield" is creating the very problem it was supposed to prevent. Now we have to spend over $100 to have the carpets cleaned professionally and get this sticky glue off. Save yourself the bother and don't buy this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs exactly as advertised Chose to use something quick and disposable instead of a canvas or tarp and we were not disappointed. It took a little effort to go down but protected our carpetIng throughout the entire painting project (about 3 weeks). No residue like some other reviews, not sure if they had a bad batch or maybe didn't follow instructions. Thank you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from left residue on carpet! Searching for a way to remove the sticky residue from our carpet. Avoid this product ! A problem I just don't have the time to deal with.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaves a residue As the previous reviewer stated, this "shield" leaves a sticky residue that collects dirt and fur. When I removed it after two weeks (only half the recommended maximum use time), we could see the exact outline of where the Carpet Shield had been! I had to scrub my NEW carpet to get rid of the remains of the product that claimed to protect it. Don't buy this stuff.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Left a residue on the carpet! I used this during a remodel to keep my new carpet clean. I just took the plastic off and its sticky everywhere the plastic was. Really sticky. I'm afraid if I leave it like this dirt will stick to the carpet and leave a dirty path on the carpet that outlines everywhere the plastic was. So now I have to spend a lot of money to get my NEW carpet cleaned. Totally stinks.
