Customer Questions & Answers

Got tough questions Is this product glass or Quartz

Asked by: JRP
Quartz is a technical product. Sizes over 6" x 6" in flat panes would be rare and would cost between something like $3.00 to $5.00 per square inch, depending on thickness. Home Depot and the like sell plain old common window glass. If you are looking for quartz for a particular application, try looking for scientific glass/quartz suppliers.

Can i have glass cut to a specific size if i buy a larger piece ?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: BS4949
If you are referring to having the glass cut at your local Home Depot, you would need to contact the store directly. However, I have never seen one that did cut glass. If you purchased the Glass-Cutting Tool Kit, here are a couple of Key Points: 1: Make sure and clean the plate glass, bottle or mirror before trying to cut it. Very small pieces of dirt / sand can and will affect the quality of the cut. 2: Use the oil to ensure a smooth ride along the glass. 3: Practice on a test piece so you can get the proper technique down and most importantly so you know what the proper sound is while doing so. Listen for a smooth sound like ripping silk. A gritty sound means that you are pushing too hard or that you did not oil your cutter. The less sound you make, the better your score will be. 4: Do NOT Press down hard. 5: As you end a cut on a flat piece, there is no need to push down harder as you exit the piece. 6: Never, Never, Never go back over the line / score / etch you just made! This will only destroy the cutting wheel, and your cut will end up becoming jagged. 7: Go onto the onto the "tube" video website and watch a couple videos on cutting glass, it will help a lot. Cheers!

Customer Reviews

24 in. x 36 in. x 3/32 in. Clear Glass is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading... It is NOT .125 thick (1/8") Window replacement glass should be Double Strength, which is .125 (1/8"). That's what I thought I was purchasing, based on the information in the title "24 In x 36" x .125 Clear Glass" - the employees were nice and accomodatiing, as always, and they cut the sheets to the sizes I requested. Very nice customer service, and they spent a bit of time cutting sheets into multiple sizes. The glass was wrapped and taped very nicely in brown paper. I paid for everything, and left the store. But I found out later, that there were stickers on the glass noting that they were Single Strength glass, and only 3/32" thick. The glass that Home Depot is selling should not be advertised as .125 thickness. It is not. This glass is fine to use for picture glass, but it is not window glass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not so good Must be Italian because it is really FRAGILE. After cutting to correct size the glass broke in half. Don't waste your time. Glass co will supply and cut glass for a few bucks more. Not a good product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not 0.125" (1/8"), but 3/32" Bought from store and found thickness is 3/32" not as advertized online as 0.125" (4/32" or 1/8"), 3/32" is only recommended for picture frames, not for windows. HD online put the glass panel in "Doors and Windows" department, that's misleading. I hope HD carry thicker glass panels, not the only cheapest.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy. Great price, but we needed to get it cut slightly smaller to fit in our picture frame. When the person tried to cut it a day after purchase, it was so full of tiny cracks that the glass shattered.
