Customer Questions & Answers

what kind of screws?

What kind of screws can you use to attach a ceiling fan bracket to this fan box?
Asked by: mmoss
Not sure what the Carlon rep means. 10-32 will not fit in the holes as drilled by Carlon. The Carlon provided screws that came with this item are 5/8" x 8-32. The provided screws are not high quality and the heads tend to strip if you have to remove to adjust fit. I swapped in stainless steel screws.

how do you hang one of these Ceiling fan box

how far down from the ceiling do you want to hang these do you want them to be recessed in to the ceiling or should they be flush with the drywall, plaster?
Asked by: Annie
I am buying additional boxes for newly renovated rooms. They attach to the joist in ceiling (new construction) with 2 nails seen in the picture AND 2 or 3 sheet rock screws through the attached bracket into the joist. The nails, screws, and stiff box makes for a very secure box for a fan or light. In the end the box will be flush with the surface of the sheet rock. Note this is a new construction box - you have to have access to nail the box to the ceiling joist and screw in a couple screws through the bracket.

Is there a way to tell whether this box is installed or not by looking at the inside? Previous owner claimed all boxes were fan-rated. It is a blue, circular box like this. But I can't tell if it has the extra bracket since drywall is already up. Is there a serial number or something printed on the inside?
Asked by: Bob
There are two screws at the bottom of the box that hold the bracket. So, if those screws are present, then the bracket is installed.

So why does a product named ceiling fan box have a description that states Rated for light fixtures up to 50 pounds; not fan rated?

It's not fan rated? But it's listed as a ceiling fan box?
Asked by: EngineHead
This box is rated for both fixture and fan - the bullet point in the header is incorrect and we are working to get that fixed. This box is rated for fixture up to 50 pounds and a fan up to 35 pounds. Thank for your question as it will allow us to make that correction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent box for ceiling fixtures - Very strong and secure I am buying additional boxes for additional renovations. Note the box is for new construction; nail in + 2 or 3 sheetrock screws through the bracket make the box very secure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good product for its price I am a D.I.Y type of person. I had no problems installing it went up in less then two minuets the only thing I had a little difficulty with was getting the wires in but all in all not a bad product. A really really good buy, after I put up the first one I went out and bought them for every light fixture in my house even those with out a ceiling fan.
