Answer:
Yes, it sure can. It is rigid enough and light weight. Comes on a roll but is very stiff and clean. You can even double layer it if you wish.

This stuff is quite a bit cheaper than 1/4" wire mesh I was planning to use to seal up some areas where mice and rats are entering. Do you thing it's strong enough to keep rats from chewing thru it?

Answer:
Hi Joel,
This lath will not do the job, it is considerably lighter weight than the 1/4 hardware cloth you are considering.
Use the 1/4 inch hardware cloth wire mesh.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Impressive I used this to fill in a 2 sq. ft. hole on the outside wall of my home below my kitchen window. I had to replace a 2 foot section of iron pipe. I then applied the stucco mix to the lath. This lath has holes small enough for the stucco to adhere to. Much smaller holes than chicken wire and very easy to bend into the shape you desire. You will need tin snips to cut it. June 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Multi-Use Material Ever Used this material as a cheese grater! I had a big wheel of parmesan cheese to grate up for a big party. It worked wonderfully! Just had the idea from walking through the store and saw it...what luck!!! May 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not exactly what they intended, but works great! I used this lath for garden fencing around some raised beds in my backyard to keep the bunnies out of my peas and beans. My husband used some extra deck balusters we had laying around to drive into the dirt and then we secured the lath with lath screws to the balusters. He used a sheet metal brake to bend the lath for corners and trimmed the end pieces with big scissors he uses for sheet metal & the like. So far so good - the bunnies havent eaten our plants and the fence holds up well (we used it for the strawberry patch last year, still looks great this year!). July 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 27 IN. X 8 FT. STEEL LATH This is a very durable and solid product. It is NOT a flimsy steel lath. It does not bend, very solid. January 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Metal Lath Product was easy to cut and handle for flooring application. Flexible enough to bend for secure staple attachment. January 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed! I closed an exterior doorway and needed to weatherproof, as well as prep for the plasterer over the weekend. Picking up the wire lath at Home Depot was convenient, and it was 'just what I needed!' January 29, 2014
