The home that needs the security system has NO INTERNET ACCESS. Will 2Gig Work without an internet connection?

Asked by: Kim
No. You need a hub like Wink. I don't know of a hub that works without internet access. There may be alarm systems that work with Z-Wave devices but the ones I know of work only with their own proprietary sensors.

Do these have a temperature sensor?

I've seen reviews comparing these to the monoprice sensors which include temperature, do these also report temperature?
Asked by: Dan
Yes, the motion sensor does, but not the contact sensors.

I have a small dog, will it set alarm off?

can alarm be set with a small dog in the house?
Asked by: KBone
It might. I have a 90lb golden and he definitely sets it off. Here is what works for me, tilt the sensor up by several degrees. Turning the sensor upside down does not work, neither is taping the bottom portion of the sensor.

Essentials DIY Home Security Kit, Z-Wave and Wink Enabled is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Door sensor If I could have made contact with manufacturer about a failed unit I would have rated this product much higher. I have several of these installed and working well. But when one failed within 1 year of service I was unable to make contact with manufacturer to acquire warranty exchange. I could not find a source where a single unit could be purchased and had to opt for a package of several sensors. Disappointed that Home Depot did not have this in stock or sell just single sensors.

With sensors for 2 doors and a PIR sensor that can cover a large room it is a great way to start monitoring your home. The 3M double face tape makes it easy to install. Setup is easy with onscreen step by step instructions in the app on your phone. As well as motion detection the PIR sensor gives you room temperature.

It took several attempts to pair the sensors with the hub, but they work fine once I got them included in the zwave network. The sensors need to be fairly close to the hub, or a powered zwave device in order to communicate reliably.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using it with SmartThings. Contact sensors very reliable, motion sensor could need some work. I'm using these sensors with SmartThings. They are z-wave and pair within seconds. They are, from my experience, much more reliable than their Zigbee counterparts (Lowes Iris sensors). The contact sensors have an auxiliary terminal so it can be triggered by an external source. I've retrofitted it to be a smoke detector relay switch as well as a leak sensor. Very flexible, when bought in a kit like this, a much better deal than individual sensors. Now the motion sensor is less sensitive than competitions, and I only use it for security purpose instead of turning on/off lights. I wish it's got better firmware. The test jumper doesn't seem to work, and no idea what Pet1 or Pet2 jumpers do. Wish there's better documentation on the jumper settings. If you have a big dog like mine (90lb), turning the sensor upside down does NOT work, and taping the lower part of the sensor also does NOT work well because it decreases overall sensitivity (even with people). What I found work is title the sensor up by several degrees. You ave to experiment with it to see what angle works best for you. I find the perfect angle is about when the plastic faceplate is vertical. Again, if the TEST jumper works as expected, it would make testing this sensor much more efficient. Overall it's a great product and I recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile. Decent for the $$ Good Door/Window sensors. A bit bulky. Quick response. Pairs with SmartThings hub as Z-wave Door/Window sensor. Has screw terminals on board which let you add a cheaper non zwave sensor (Perfect for side by side windows) Sends battery level and O/C status to hub. Motion sensor is a bit slow to respond. The PIR is mounted at a 20 degree angle requiring you to mount this high on a wall to get decent coverage. Side are not angled so mounting in the corner of a room requires a mount. Reports motion and battery level. Pairs with SmartThings as a Aeon Multi sensor. This the same unit as the Monoprice no logo for $30 each. Custom device types available At less than $17 each it's a great deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome kit. This has come in very handy. At $49 it's a deal and I've picked up a couple of them the last month or so but I found them again at another local HD for $24 and the $99 kit for $46. Bought them all. At that price they are a steal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2GIG is NOT the Brand! I jist purchased these from my local Home Depot, and discovered these will not work with the 2GIG Go!Control system. 2GIG's product name has the "!" In the name, where this brand does not. These are Z-Wave sensors, and although 2GIG supports Z-Wave devices (lights, locks, etc), they currently do not support Z-Wave sensors. Hopefully Home Depot corrects the mistake on their website so others don't have this frustrating experience.
