Customer Questions & Answers

will this kit (1" brass anti-siphon repair kit) work on plastic anti siphon valves?

Asked by: kinnedie
Yes, I have used them in the past on plastic valves. But there are several companies making them , so I am not sure they work on all valves.

I have a fairway brass anti siphon valve, it was leaking out of the anti siphon part. I replaced the electronic assembly, solenoid, both cap gaskets and used orbit repair kit 503066. Still leaking out of the anti siphon part from top of cap. can the solenoind wires be switched or wired wrong, the valve turns on and off as designed. help stumped,
Asked by: Joe
Joe, that will depend on when the anti-siphon vent is leaking: 1. When the valve is on? 2. For a few minutes after the valve turns off? 3. All the time (even several hours after the valve is turned off)? Issue #1 (above) would be for one of 3 reasons: (A) The anti-siphon (A/S) seal carrier gasket is missing or damaged. Remove the anti-siphon cap, pull out the little plastic part and see if there is any damage to the rubber seal or if it is missing. (B) The surface area that the rubber seal pushes into to make a seal is damaged. (C) You do not have enough water pressure to make an effective seal. Generally it takes up to 10 PSI, dynamic pressure, to make a seal (10 PSI when the pressure is flowing) Issue #2 (leaking for a few minutes after the valve turns off): This would occur when the valve is not installed as per plumbing codes. Generally (your local codes could vary) an A/S valve should be installed 6 inches HIGHER than the highest sprinkler head connected to that sprinkler zone. If the valve is installed lower than any of the heads, then you will get water draining out of the A/S vent while the water in the sprinkler lines (downstream of the valve) will drain to the lowest point or points in the system until the water empties from the pipes downstream of the valve. If this is the case, your valves were installed incorrectly – not in accordance with plumbing codes. If your valves are installed in an underground valve box, unless your valve box is at the top of a hill and all of your heads are at least 6 inches lower, then your system is installed incorrectly. Anti-siphon valves are generally installed above ground, not in a valve box where they are by definition lower than the sprinkler heads in a relatively flat yard. Issue #3: If the leakage out of the vent cap is constant (does not stop several hours after the valve turns off), then you either have: (A) A damaged seal on the valve side (B) A damaged (or cracked) seating surface on the valve side (C) Leakage through the diaphragm assembly (D) Leakage through the solenoid assembly (but you replaced the solenoid so this is unlikely) Please give our Support team a call at 1-800-488-6156, and we'd be more than happy to help in any way we can. Thanks!

My brass anti-siphon valve isn't shutting off like it use to. I have to turn the flow control knob on the top of the valve to shut down the flow. After it shuts down I open the valve back up and everything is fine until the next auto cycle (it comes on by its self but doesn't go off until I shut down the flow). If I purchase this repair kit and replace the various gaskets that are included should it turn off automatically again?
Asked by: DIYguy
DIYguy, that's a great question. First open the valve via the manual bleed screw on the lid (instead of using the timer). Once the water starts spraying out of the sprinklers, close the manual bleed screw. Give the valve 60 seconds. If it does not close by that time, then do your usual thing with the flow control to get it to close. If the valve closes on its own, then it is likely a solenoid issue. Something is preventing the solenoid from closing or something is keeping the solenoid open. If the valve does not close via manual operation, then you can focus on other areas. The repair kit would help a "valve not closing" issue only if you have a small hole in the diaphragm OR a small leak somewhere that is not allowing the pressure to build on the top of the diaphragm to close the valve. Hopefully this helps to resolve the problem you're experiencing with your valve(s). If you have any further questions at all, we'd be happy to help in any way we can. Please feel free to contact our Support team at 1-800-488-6156. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked perfectly to fix a burst valve once lubricated The internal plastic valve ruptured on our Anti-Siphon for the sprinklers when it froze during the winter and ice cracked it, but this kit worked perfectly to repair the damage. Only issue was I needed to spray some silicone lubricant on the gasket to get it to seal (it leaked a bit otherwise), but once I did that it worked & sealed perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed my leaking valve I had a leaking anti-siphon valve, and this let me fix it. I was missing a washer that I didn't know was missing. The diagram included let me diagnose the problem, and the washer stopped the leak.
