The closest store to your zip code will be displayed. You can not do multiple searches and you really don't need to, their prices are pretty much uniform.

Backflow preventer for lawn watering?

This question is from 3/4 in. Bronze FPT x FPT Backflow Preventer Assembly Valve

Can I install this backflow preventer below ground in a valve box in a freezing climate if it's only used seasonally? This is for a residential irrigation system that will be drained (and blown if required to prevent damage) during winter months.

If not, am I looking at the wrong product? I know there are below grade, outdoor, backflow preventers for irrigation out there somewhere :-)

Answer:
The most satisfactory installation outdoors is above ground and should be installed this way whenever possible. Where freezing conditions occur they should be installed in an insulated enclosure. They can be installed in meter boxes. If installed unprotected outdoors where freezing can occur they should be blown out with compressed air.

My local code requires a Double Check Valve for supplying residential sprinkler system. It can be installed below grade in a meter box only if the device is suitable for such an installation.
Is this device suitable for installation in a meter box or does it need to be above ground?
Thanks

Answer:
The degree of protection required varies from location to location. You should check with the local authority having jurisdiction over plumbing installations, usually a plumbing inspector. They will be able to tell you what the specific requirements are for your area.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This was a great pruchase and at a very good price. The backflow preventer was very easy and straight forward to install. The price is very good for this item also. I do recommend this product. September 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Once installed, you shouldn't notice anything. A backflow preventer is one of those necessary parts in a watersystem. If installed correctly -and that includes frost proofing- it should give you many years of humble service. This unit does what it needs to do and Home depot sells it at a very competitive price. Make sure you size it up correctly. February 25, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Came with leaking valve and broken plastic cap Thanks to my son, a Steamfitter, he had access to repair parts. April 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best price. Very simple to install Very simple to install and satisfies the water department's code. May 30, 2013
