I used these boards to make adjustable shelves for the shoes and purses section of our closet redo. We wanted to have a built-in feel to the redo, so we sanded, primed and painted all the melamine laminated boards including these. We have done this before and they have held up very well doing this.

It seems as though homedepot.com is the last and only place you can find these pre-drilled melamine shelf supports.
You can devise an infinite number of closet and storage configurations using these along with ClosetMaid, RubberMaid, KV, or any other brand of shelves, as well as the 3/4inch melamine sold at many Home Depots.
Cutting melamine is always a chalenge as the material gets ragged with even the best saw blades. it helps if you score your cut-line with a utility blade before you cut.
The biggest tip I can offer is to have these shipped to the store and pick them up there. Otherwise, they are sure to arrive at your home damaged. They are SO heavy and UPS simply isn't able to handle them with care.

This is not actually a SHELF. This is a SIDE PANEL, so that one can CREATE their own shelving system or bookcase. The reason for the pre-drilled holes is so that one can insert standard shelf-support pegs, which will hold up the shelves. One would need TWO of these panels for a bookcase--one for the left side, with holes facing to the right, one for the right side, with holes facing to the left. A couple of solid shelves would need to be attached permanently at the top and bottom to create the outer "shell" of the bookcase. I would also recommend permanently attaching another solid shelf somewhere around the center of the bookcase, or at least 1/3 of the way up from the bottom, to give it more stability. The other inner shelves could all be adjustable, to accommodate books or bric-a-brac of different heights.

If your having trouble with clean melamine cuts, use 3M painters tape on the cut line, run it upsidedown, or both....works like a charm.

the order was short of a pair of panels. These have now been delivered but we have had to have the contractor back to finish the job, creating unnecessary extra expense.
