This site says the product is 3/4 in wide - but, in the store, the rolls are 13/16 in. I would like to have 3/4 inch, since I have 3/4 in. melamine boards and I would like to not have to trim the tape 1/16 in. SO IS THERE 3/4 INCH TAPE AVAILABLE, OR IS IT ONLY AVAILABLE IN 13/16 INCH WIDTH?
Asked by: Panzer
Get the 13/16" width. You will need the slight overlap or else you will have to be perfect at installing it. Trim the extra with a sharp chisel. You can find great videos on Youtube showing the process. It trims very quick and easy.

How to stain Melamine Edging

I tried an experimental piece and cannot get it to stain. I let it soak for several minutes, and when I wiped it off only the barest hint of color was on the edging. I then tried another piece, only sanding it first. No help. The product description states it can be stained. I am using Minwax stain. Any tips?
Asked by: handy
1. Wipe it down with trisodium phosphate. rinse well with water,,Dry it off. 2. then with with a hand sander rough it up with 150 grit Sandpaper. wipe with a cloth or tack cloth. 3. 3. Apply a stainable latex primer. with a natural bristle brush, brush on gel stain, you may want while still wet drag a wood grain tool straight down the length of the piece to be stained for a wood grain look, optional. 4.then let it set for 4 to 5 days so the solvent in the gel stain to work its way in 5. Spray 3 coats of polyurethane top coat allowing 2-3 hours between coats. Hope this helps

I'm changing out a slide in gas range that sits between two counter tops to a freestanding range. I was thinking of finishing the edges of the counter tops (which is white) so they are more finished looking, as you will be able to see about 3/16 on either side of the stove. The stove vents at the top back and out the door in front, but I'm wondering if heat from the stove would cause the edge tape to come off. My other option is to simply paint the unfinished area white. Any thoughts?
Asked by: WindyCityWoman
Since this is put on with an iron it is possible the heat may cause it to peel off. I put it on a cabinet door above our stove and it is working. But it is about 30 inches above the stove. if it is on the edge of the counter and is not touching the stove itself it might work. Even the edging that comes on Formica will peel.

Do I need to cut into 2 pieces at outer corners?

I'm finishing the outer edge of the boards; does the tape need to be cut at the corner edge, or will it work as one continuous piece around the whole board?
Asked by: HouseCat
I was able to bend it around the corners of my cabinet doors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and efficient I repainted our kitchen cabinets and needed to either paint or resurface the front edges of all the cabinet faces. I didn't think that painting would be durable enough on the existing melamine faces, so I bought 300' of this edge banding. Installation couldn't have been easier. I cleaned the edge with a cleaner/degreaser and scuffed the existing melamine banding, so the adhesive would bite better. Turned the iron just shy of the highest setting, and ironed it right on. Easy to cut, easy to apply. I didn't use anything over the banding to protect the iron, so I had to make sure if any adhesive transferred that I wiped it off right away. Cabinets look great, and the banding blends in perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Band-It plywood banding tape Excellent product. Applies easily with a house iron or specialty banding iron. Matches hardwood veneered plywood exactly and can be stained to look just like the surface of the plywood. Trimming, if necessary, can be done with a random orbit sander, router, or banding trim tool, such as the Band-It trimmer, unfortunately not available at The Home Depot.
