Answer:
The female end is a rotating collar that can be threaded onto a male hose end while the body of the elbow and the hose are both stationary.

Answer:
Hello Makakilo,
Yes. The elbow can be used at either the washing machine inlet or the outlet valve. Far the best experience make sure you attach the elbow first with the male threaded end in the position you want it to rest in. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

I am looking for an elbow to connect to nut that requires a beveled or "nipple" end so that it compresses the gasket fully.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just The Connector I Needed For My Rain barrels!! I have several rain barrels connected to my downspouts and set them up with simple garden hose overflows from the highest outlet. I wasn't paying attention and both of the garden hoses bent and kinked tight (even though both had the spring coils at end). This resulted in water over-flowing instead of releasing thru the overflow hoses (and back into the downspouts). I purchased several of these brass elbow connectors and they perfectly eliminated the bend in the overflow hose. I wished I knew about these years ago as the overflows were always a point of stress when it comes to managing rainwater at my home. If you have rain barrels then I highly recommend using these to connect overflow hoses. June 7, 2015
