Customer Questions & Answers

Do the track corners need to be mitered for a good looking installation?

Asked by: Drew
Mitering looks best and works well for a continuous spline. The last piece is a bit tricky to get in with the click on system. You need the last screw to be far enough away from the final corner to bend the frame piece into place and then tap in with a mallet. The final corner piece of the frame is a bit loose because of this, but once you get the screen in, it's pretty solidly in place.

Are the screw/clips included with the mini track or are they purchased separately?

Asked by: ColoradoDIY
Separately and must be screwed in precisely (perpendicular and to the right depth) otherwise you cant pound the frame over the screw head or it will be loose. Its actually very finicky in how the screws must be done. Thats the hard part

Does this flex for Arch Way installations?

Asked by: Crabs
Probably not. It flexes a bit, but not enough for a archway.

Takes some patience and the right tools, but the finished product is worth the effort. Just use a piece of scrap track to check the screw heads before hammering them on. Anyone with moderate carpentry experience can install this system.

My purchase included the the Screen Tight track, screws, spline and spline tool. It is very easy to misalign the attachment screws. If the screws do line up, they may be sloped in or out just enough for the horizontal and vertical tracks to off a little bit. you can't get the track back off (with out bending) for realignment. For screw depth , not too tight & not too loose, is highly subjective. Screw depth for track that crosses items such as tie down plates is a guess. Either the screen channel is manufactured too narrow or it gets smashed during installation. The spline took an excessive amount of force and stretching to install. I have finished 3 of 30" x 40" panels. I am going to remove this mess and look for another system maybe Snapp Screen or Screeneze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks like it was done by a professional This product was used to replace 200 square feet of screen on a screened porch at our mountain cabin. There is a slight learning curve when you begin installation. Follow the instructions in the Home Depot video closely and you will have no problems. I found that it was helpful to use a piece of 1" x 2" scrap lumber that was about 12" long placed along the mini track to tap it into kept the channel from being dented by the rubber mallet and the spline channel from being bent. You will need to purchase the screw clips separately. I wish I had known about this product when the porch was originally installed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not easy to install, but gives a good result Not easy to push the spline into the tracks with the Screentight tool, so be careful you don't come out of the track and end up ripping the screen. Also, the installation of the screws that hold the track to the frame requires being pretty careful not to overtighten, or the track won't "catch" when you drive it on over the screw heads. I used a 4" section of track to check each screw for the proper tightness. Slide the end of the short section under the screw head. It shouldn't be so loose that it rattles, but it shouldn't be hard to slide either. When driving the track on, make sure the point of the track that you are going to hit with the rubber mallet is centered over the screw head you are trying to fasten to, and center the blow of the rubber mallet over the screw. It usually only takes a single hit to get each screwhead to capture.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so Great I have hired out my services and feel more qualified than most DYI's but this product did not live up to the install video. Bad design, hard to install, almost impossible to keep from damaging the track when rubber mallet is used to pound down track over screw heads that must be screwed in perfectly without any margin for error. Track will not uninstall and re-install without damage to track.
