Answer:
This is a Williams 3003622 wall furnace and the AFUE rating is 66%, which is pretty low efficiency. However, if you're only using it in the garage when you're working in there it may not matter.

What does elevation have to do with it?

The description says the unit is good up to 4500' elevation. Is this because of expected temperatures above that elevation or does it have to do with the amount of oxygen in the air? I live at 5600' in SE Arizona. Is there a different model that would work better here?

Answer:
The nozzle for the gas is different to allow for a better fuel/oxygen ratio for burning more efficiently at altitude. There are other heaters for higher altitudes.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 124 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great unit - easy to install Good looking unit arrived in only 3 days, very well packaged with no damage. Instructions are adequate, with one weak point, i.e. the text doesn't reference the letter markers on some illustrations which means you have to puzzle out what item the text is referencing. After cutting through nine inches of brick wall, one difficulty found was making the vent tubes slip together until it was discovered that the external vent can be disassembled easily with four small nuts. This makes the nesting of the vent tubes more straightforward and then easily reassembled. Agree with other reviewers that thermostat wire is too short. Pilot was a little difficult to light until realized line should be purged. Furnace lit right up and started putting out a wonderful amount of heat, making the 900 sf basement garage/workshop usable in the winter. A real plus during power outages is unit uses no a/c. And enclosed combustion chamber means safe to use in workshop. February 22, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Install and work's perfectly! Easy to install and heats great! Very Economical and easy to use! February 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Heater This was easy to install. A bit time consuming if you you're paying attention to detail, but I was able to install in an afternoon, assuming the gas line has already been run. The instructions are few, but there doesn't need to be many. A full size "cut hole here" template is included. It attaches directly to the studs with 4 screws. The included screws are flat blade, oval head, wood screws - should be drilled first. I used my own screws. I'm heating 1000 s.f. with lots of windows. Temps have been 0 degF at night, highs of about 10 degF, and it keeps it 70 degF in most of the house. Only exception is the opposite end of the house, with an un-insulated room. At these temperatures, it does run quite a bit. It's not the most efficient thing, but considering the low purchase price and installing it myself, it really doesn't matter. With the cold weather we've been having, it looks like it's going to cost about $75 per month in gas. Beats hauling in wood every weekend - or cutting wood to begin with, for that matter. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This heater is very well built and a great buy I bought this to put in a rental house that we remodeled. Home Depot delivered it directly to my location. It came with a full size cutting pattern to cut through the wall. We installed it in two hours and it works great in the one bedroom cabin we put it in. I am very happy with this heater. I looked at others and this one had the best price and value. December 10, 2013
