Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Do Better PVC Joints I've messed with PVC pipe a little for many years. I like copper and playing with fire, however copper will become history plumbing because of cost. PEX and PVC is future plumbing and its fairly simple for about anybody to master. With the new shark-bite fittings it's a snap to switch between different plumbing materials too. Being a bit old school I always skipped applying primer to my PVC joints thinking that using a PVC cleaner and glue was enough. And most of the time it is, but I finally had a old joint slip and start leaking. When I cut it out I could see that the hard glue was flaking off the slick pipe. Know I always use PVC Primer which etches the plastic and gives an ideal surface for the glue to actually stick to and weld the fitting to the pipe. Smart to use primer on those joints and its such cheap insurance that you're making a better joint. August 10, 2016
