Answer:
You cannot cut that much off the door. Its a wood framed with styrofoam and a metal casing on both sides. Its not solid. The wood framing is only an inch thick. If you had to cut down. 1\2 inch on top and bottom is all your going to get

Yes, there are DIY videos on the internet that show you how to do it. It requires some skill, a couple of hours and a few tools. If you are handy, you can do it. Otherwise you need to spend 4X more for a custom door.

Answer:
The wood frame and casing will take almost all of the damage and the door itself will just dent from forced entry. You can use longer screws in the strike plates for a cheap way to increase security or spend a little more for a reinforcement plate for the frame. It will also help to add longer screws to the hinges but make sure they are strong (NOT drywall screws).

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not a 36" door There is nothing inherently wrong with this door, especially with a $99 price tag. The real problem is size. I needed a true 36"x80" door to fit an existing opening. What this door actually measures is 35/5"x79". Since I am installing a double door configuration, I'm looking at a 1" gap in the middle. Now I'm back to the store. Not happy with HD or manufacturer. July 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by vary bad product, very WRONG SIZE this door has a wrong size and home depot customer service and store representative are PS me. i got the door painted and after installing it i found it's shorter and 35 in instead of 36. unhappy with home depot Customer services. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent door for the price Wasn't too sure about purchasing this door for an installation the first time I used it. But I'm now using it more often. Good quality and does the job it needs to do. July 14, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by botched Same day, there are many red streaks along the door panel; red streaks all over the place. Home Depot shouldn't even be selling a door with obvious defects. December 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cheap door This is likely the cheapest steel exterior door you are going to find. It does the job. It looks OK, but the metal is very thin. It dents if you give it a nasty look. I bought three of them and since they come with no packaging, by the time I got home one was dented already. These are not sturdy doors, if somebody wants to kick your door in, it would not be very difficult. The wood reinforcement around the lock area is weak. They are light weight and this makes them easy to install, but it's also what makes them not very secure. August 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by THESE DOORS ARE THE WRONG SIZE! These doors are 1/2 - 1 inch shorter than they're supposed to be so you have to buy their framing too! Bring your tape measure! July 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hard to paint The door is a very nice door. pretty light in terms of weight in comparison to a lot of other exterior doors. Thing is difficult to paint though. I used this door as a replacement to my garage man door from the house to the garage. I painted 3 coats of behr paint & primer in one ... ultra pure white, & still could see the primer showing through. Not sure if it is the door or the paint. If you were to use an exterior grade paint maybe there would be some better luck. June 25, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DOES NOT hold up to direct sunlight. My house faces southeast. 1 hour after installation in the morning sunlight, it began to ripple in the middle and on the sides. Very cheap door. Use only in shaded areas. December 5, 2014
