Questions & Answers

how do you remove screen to paint door

will screen go back in if I remove the spline?
Asked by: tpf
We had this door installed on our screened porch. Since it's unfinished, and not treated, it needs to be (stained or painted) and sealed. But without removing the screen, I don't see any way to access that side in order to stain/paint/seal the door. I'll add that the bottom spline on one door has come loose and torn off after a couple of months. This didn't happen with our last - decades old - door. I think we may need to remove these and start again with a vinyl or treated door.

It was easy for my wife and I to install within 20 minutes on our front door. The only thing I would change is that the website link together the components not included but needed to complete the installation. In the store it has the hardware placed next to the product in the aisle. Having those (hinges, handle, and closer) shown on the web page when I was ordering it would have made me even more happier.

Nice screen doors for the price, easy to install, did it myself in less than an hour. I would buy again and recommend. Measure your door opening and get the right size screen door and you shouldn't have any problems. Durable, I bought the recommended hardware kit, includes hinges, handles, spring, screws and latch hook with eyelet hook. I'm a happy camper! Installed a couple of months ago, no problems. Work as expected.

I know this door was inexpensive and when I first saw it, I thought it was good for the price. But less than a month after putting it up, the screen had pulled out from the bottom and the spline was not even a normal spline, it was just like a black plastic string to hold the screen in. It was like it just fell out. This is with only one adult opening the door about twice a day with no pressure on the screen itself.

You have to toss it and add new screen if you want to paint it. Also, it sagged immediately after installation and drags across the patio. It needs braces in the corners and I still haven't found an adequate solution that will accept screw that won't come through the other side. Otherwise, it's a nice looking door.

If you're looking for an old school 'slammer' style screen door, you've found it here. Unfinished so you can paint or stain. Turned wood spindles add charm to the overall look of the door. Sturdy, beautiful and fairly priced.
