Customer Questions & Answers

Does this dry clear?

Asked by: PTurner
I made a second purchase, different state, a gallon. This again has a significant color like used oil and will discolor any pigment added to it.

absorb water? electrically conductive?

Hi, I'd like to use this to "pot" electronic circuits. I've read on web that it is no good for this because it absorbs water and becomes somewhat electrically conductive. Sounds wrong to me, but is there any truth to that? -Thanks
Asked by: drjohn
I answered this question myself by experiment. I "potted" two conductors (about 1/2 in apart) in this resin, tossed it in a salt water canal, and let it sit for 3 weeks. After I pulled it out and dried it off, I measured about 2 megohms between the leads. That's a pretty high resistance and probably Ok for power circuits, but probably not for sensitive electronics.

Can this be used on a radiator?

I have a tiny crack in the plastic part of my radiator. Will this hold under the heat and pressure?
Asked by: Joe
No, the resin cannot be used on a radiator.

Bondo 1 qt. All-Purpose Fiberglass Resin is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, bad instructions. Product is a good polyester finishing resin. It also works as a casting resin. But the mixing instructions that state "1/4tsp hardener to 3oz resin" is wrong. If use that ratio it will set in less than 2 minutes*. A much better ratio is 1/4tsp to 4oz resin, this will give you about 8 minutes* working time. *Both of these times are for normal 70°-80° temp and includes 1min mix time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's been around forever and works well. I mainly use this stuff to make micarta for knife handles. Works great, sticks to almost anything except wax paper. The previous rater gave it 2 stars for something he admitted was his own fault. Any product that is intended to dry or cure will eventual do so even in the bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed a car bumper My mother-in-law damaged her car bumper when she caught it on a curb. The cracks kept spreading in all directions and was getting worse and worse. She asked me to take a look at it and mentioned she didn't need to be pretty just stop the cracks from getting worse. Followed the directions and also bought some of the fiberglass cloth to give it something to adhere to and additional strength. Even in 60 degree weather it set within 2 hours and the next day I sanded it down. Feels very strong and seems to have bonded to the plastic bumper just fine. I still have a lot of the cloth and resin leftover with plenty of hardener that came with it so I'll be looking for more things to fix before it gets too old to use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Resigned to Resin One recommendation, use the product quickly after purchasing. I bought the Fiberglass, Resin & hardener on sale a while back trying to save a buck until I got around to my project. There are no expiration dates or directions to use within a certain amount of time. Even though I never opened the can of resin as I got it out of the cupboard today found that it is now hard as a rock. Yes, its my fault, but sure would have been nice to know in advance
