This lead test gave me peace of mind for my latest project. I'm really glad I didn't have to wait to get results back from a lab before starting too! I had picked up an old wooden window on Craigslist to turn into a foyer mirror, and I wanted to sand the paint and gunk off of it. Since I had no idea how old it was or where it came from, I figured it would be best to test it for lead. This kit was the perfect solution for an immediate answer.
The kit comes with two testing sticks, instructions, and a test card to verify the sticks are functioning correctly in the event your test sample doesn't contain any lead. The directions were easy to follow. Just crush the two capsules, shake it up, and rub it on the test sample. The negative test result is a yellow-orange color. The color changes to a pink-red for a positive indication. Luckily my project didn't contain any lead paint, and I could check to make sure the test was functioning correctly with the included verification card.
I'm not sure how some other reviewers were reporting the tests were dried up. The liquid is stored in sealed capsules that are fairly tough to break.

Only one of the two tubes worked. I used them on the same day, immediately after I bought them. Per the directions, I crushed the two areas on the tube, shook twice, and then squeezed, but no liquid entered the brush, no matter how hard I squeezed. After much shaking and squeezing, I put some rubber gloves on and cut the tube to pour it on my paint samples, and there was no liquid inside at all, just a grayish salt-like substance.

I used this on a home I had just purchased, just to be sure we were safe. I was told the walls were recently painted - and just wanted to be sure they used the right type of paint in the basement. This product is simple to use, and you get results instantly. I can now sleep better knowing my family is not breathing in any toxic substances.

I bought this to test the paint on my windowsills now that I have grandchildren visiting. I found one old windowsill did in fact have lead paint on it. Thank you 3M!

I requested a free sample of the 3M lead check instant lead test swabs. I tried them today 11-02-14 on a variety of dishes and glassware. I found it easy to use and found out that none of the items I tested had lead. I loved how in included test confirmation card. I used it to double check to see if our plates and glasses had lead. None of them did because the test dot remained orange. I also liked how the instruction pamphlet offered a variety of items this test can be used on from wood to glassware, to even fabrics. I will highly recommend this test to family and friends.

I was sent a free Instant lead test by 3M. I just love it. Its so easy to use and results are fast. Plus there is no mistaking if your item has lead in it. Just open it, crush it, Shake then swab. If the item you are testing has lead in it the swab turns red. No mistakes. Now I know if some old dishes I have can be used. I was always afraid to use them. But now I know I can. They are safe. YEAH,,, If you have a older home this would be a must buy product to check your paint. Especially if you have kids. I love it. TY 3M for having a great easy product to ease our minds.
