Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Roadrunner Good tape to have around the house.
I like to have a roll of this tape on hand just in case I need to do some painting or if I need a tape that will hold to a painted surface but not take the underlying paint off. It seems to be a good, all-purpose household tape. I have also used it when cutting trim or cedar fence boards that are prone to chipping and splitting. With this tape on the cut, the wood is much less likely to split/chip.
Good things about this tape:
1. It sticks to a painted surface (as long as the paint is properly cured) and will peel off without taking the paint with it.
2. It seems like a good value at its current price-point.
3. It tears by hand without anything special (knife or scissors) which is handy when you’re trying to tape something up and don’t have scissors on you.
4. It peels off cleanly when using it as an edge for painting (as long as it is not left too long).
Things that could be better:
1. If left too long (more than a couple of days), it is hard to remove and can take the paint with it. If 3M could improve that, this tape would be nearly perfect.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by chriszee dollar store stuff better
put tape on clean boat hull , for a bottom line .i pressed harder at the paint edge surface for a clean edge. I left about 1/2 inch loose on top. painted bottomcote. within 2hrs, no sun, 60 degreees this tape was hard to get off. torn pieces remained and needed razor scraper removal. not fun on a 23' boat.
ill go back to dollar store stuff.
masking tape should be to mask an area, not aggravation to remove it.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Gil Holds great, but does not come off on metal.
This tape held the paper on my stucco and window frames great, however when it came time to peel off from the windows only 8 hours later it tore and left paper and glue residue. It was about 80 degrees, and the parts in the sun were much worse then the parts in the shade, but either way both needed hours of scraping with a razor and alcohol to clean up.
If your only using on Stucco, sure. But DONT put in on any metal...you will regret it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Used as painter's tape
I bought this to use as a less expensive alternative to the "blue" painter's tape. It certainly is not as good as the real stuff for this purpose, but works just fine.
The only real con is that it is has a stronger adhesive. This makes it slightly more difficult to remove. It also means it could rip some paint off with it but I did not have this problem (I never let it stay on for more than 2 days). Also, it has a tendency to tear while you are removing it, but this is not really a big deal.
For future painting projects I will be using both this and the blue stuff. I thought I would share this in case anyone else was considering doing the same thing.

I use this in my shop when gluing boards to keep the glue off of the wood. I have also used it for holding glued parts together and masking for painting as well. Very versatile tape that can be used on a number of chores.

One more than one occasion this tape and others at HD are too dry to be usable. I suppose I should have used the 90 return policy... don't have time for that.

I used this tape on my carpet when I painted the floor boards in my spare bedroom. No paint leaked through like other brands have. So worth it to spend the time to put this masking tape down before painting. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
