Customer Questions & Answers

can this tape be used on vinyl flooring?

Asked by: JR
Hi JR, I just answered this question for another client, Yes it can be used with care. I have vinyl and I plan to tape it down first then apply a piece of wood over the seam also using the 3M tape. This is going to be in a busy laundry area and I have no second thoughts of it holding well.

Can this be used on outdoor plastic surfaces. Also, weather resistant?

One of the clips holding my side mirror to it's housing broke. Will this work to permanently mount the back of my side mirror (plastic) to the plastic plate in the mirror housing (also plastic)? Also, is this weather resistant for this type of use? Thanks!
Asked by: KP
Hi KP and you have a great question. In my opinion I would use the 3M tape for your problem if the thickness will not be a problem. You are going to glue a plastic clip holding your side mirror to a plastic mirror housing, I see no problem, just be sure to cut the tape to the right size and be very careful with instillation. You will find the tape is very sticky & adheres permanently. You cannot remove the tape and reposition it, you must get it right the very first time. I do not know from first hand experience about the weather resistance, but in your case, think it would hold through all weather.

What does "Holds up to 30 lbs" mean?

Isn't the weight it can hold dependent on the amount of tape you use? How much tape is required to hold 30 lbs?
Asked by: FormerlyHappyLASHuser
I had a piece of steel that needed to be placed on my door frame. The steel was 30#, I used 6 inch pieces of tape about every 5 inches apart, and the tape held the steel for over one year already. I have no problem with this tape.

Rear spoiler mount on car

Can this be used to stick a rear plastic spoiler on a car trunk?
Asked by: Carey
I would first ask yourself if your car and your spoiler are worth very much money. For science this sounds like a break thru in awesome, but if we stop to think about what the job of a spoiler is and the amount of G-force applied to it (depending in the rig n speed) it could be a huge disaster for everyone involved. If you're worried about fabrication to do a proper install, there are places that will do it cheap. There is also the 90s style epoxy resin and fiberglass way if you're trying to do something semi permanent. I Hope everyone is okay..

Customer Reviews

Scotch 1 in. x 1.66 yds. Extreme Mounting Tape is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hope it works, it will be a great test Have a 10# brass LV logo, going to be stuck to metal fascia. According to directions 30" of take will hold it....I saw where there are failures, but that was not the products fault, they used the wrong adhesive, and had they have read the directions would not have used it. I cannot recommend this product yet. I will let you know. If you do not see a posting it worked, I will try to post either way....I'm sure if it fails I will be all over it though. Rating it as a 5 for now, for good intentions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool Idea. I received this product as a free sample and I am very excited about it. Pretty much I think it is the equivalent of Command Strips, which 3M engineers as well. Throughout my time of using it, I have learned how helpful and neat it is. Nice idea for any one thinking of purchasing this. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the old formula! The Extreme Mounting Tape I used to buy was spectacular. But now there's a new UPC/SKU, the packaging is different, the tape is now black instead of light grey and it sticks to nothing! Please bring back the good stuff! This is so disappointing. Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY strong! 3M sent me a free sample of this product to evaluate. I immediately knew what I wanted to test it on! Since spring has finally arrived (this week) here on the East Coast, I wanted to put my little bird feeder on the outside of my dining room window using this product. It's been sticking up there for over a week despite colder evening temperatures....AND, it holds better than the suction cups that came with the feeder - more secure since I can cut to size and cover more surface area. Love it! Thank you, 3M! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not strong I was really hopeful that the mounting tape could hold a very light weight corner shelf but it was constantly falling without anything on it. Now I have paint missing from the walls. I used the tape because there are electrical wire where I wanted the mount.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tape on the planet I used this tape to mount plastic sheeting on the outside patio, so that washer/dryer were protected from the rain. This has been holding for months even with massive rain and strong wind.. I was so impressed that I bought more to put up Shade Fabric to block direct sun on the patio. This is the absolute best product ever.
