Customer Questions & Answers

what is the shelf life of scotch blue tape

Asked by: Anonymous
When the tape gets old it is hard to peel from the roll. Warming it in a microwave oven for 20 seconds softens the adhesive so it can be used.

how soon after painting does the tape have to be removed?

I finished painting my living room ceiling, waited about 20 minutes and attempted to remove the tape. most of it came off, but have to back with razor blade to get the rest off of the hardwood trim . Also, can i leave it on after priming , wait for primer paint to dry, finish paint the room and then remove the tape?
Asked by: Anonymous
You should remove the tape prior to paint completely drying to avoid pulling paint from area. remove tape while paint is tacky for best results. Pull tape towards the painted area and not away.

How do I remove the residue adhesive after only 24 hours on an uncoated stone tile?

The tile in the picture has been washed with detergent and scrubbed with mineral spirits. If the tiles were still outside, I could wet diamond polish. They are inside now where the water spray would do damage. The tape was 1 inch Scotch-Blue used to assist aligning the tiles.
Asked by: Anonymous
I was able to remove residue adhesive using a fine grade steel wool. Try it on an inspicuous area first to make sure it does not mar the stone surface.

It comes off easily but holds when you need it to. It keeps the layers separated IF there is a smooth surface to put the tape to. One thing I have noticed is that if the underlying surface is not smooth, paint will siphon under the tape. Also, if the underlying paint is not cured, this can pull that layer up. I have found this is also a handy tape just to have around the house for non-painting uses. The main drawback is the price but then again you get what you pay for and this tape seems to work better than the cheaper tape.

It did not hold well on new drywall texture. Paint lines come out fairly clean. Expect some minimal paint leakage if taping over uneven surfaces. Little trick is to apply a super thin (almost invisible) coat of paintable caulk along the tape line. Allow the caulk to briefly dry, then paint right over that tape edge. As soon your final paint coat is dry, remove the tape with a slow and steady pull. The thin layer of caulk will "seal" the tape edge for a sharper paint line.

I have tried a variety of brands of painter’s tape (including the Frog brand) and this works as well as any other name brand. I was recently painting some trim using white trim/door paint and needed to protect the floor and used this tape. As with any good tape, it isn’t perfect but it for the most part protected the area I needed to protect. There were a few small spots that I had to clean up but I am not so sure that if that is my application error or the tape. I didn’t have any major bleeding though with those spots though but I will say I have not found any brand of tape that works 100 percent like they claim. The tape applies fairly easily without tearing or breaking unless you want to do so. It also comes up after being down a couple days. I really can’t tell much difference between this advanced tape than the regular Scotchblue tape.

We use it mainly for painting, but we also use for covering areas that are to be painted, to be sanded, to be plastered, window work, and so much more. Overall, it is a useful tape to use when doing most indoor-and-outdoor housework. It can be used on many arts and crafts work also as it is easy to peel off without leaving residue or damage to whichever item is being taped.

I paint sailboats and I used your new blue tape for tapping off and i had to use acetonr to remove residue, which in turn ruined the line on a otherwise perfect paint job. I wont

The only reason I give it only four stars is because it's on the pricey side, especially if you're doing a big job. For smaller projects and fine work around areas of high visibility, it's the best you can buy. It's easy to use, leaves nice clean lines and pulls of easily.

Well that didn’t happen, all lines were very jagged and bleed from one side to the other. I understand texture of wall is not smooth, so it would be difficult. Using some wood trim to cover up separations.
