Answer:
It won't stick to a blacktop surface & would also allow paint to bleed under the tape.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 840 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best tape to use This size tape is best for painting and floor covering, we use it to cover 3,000 sq ft of flooring all the time May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Last time I use this Just removed the tape from an edge area I painted and most of the paint underneath it came with it. All the time I took to carefully put the tape in exactly the right place was a complete waste of time. Now I will have to just paint very carefully along the edge. The roll and a half of the tape I have left will now just go into the trash. August 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Home Depot Is My New Home The staff has been helping me with the new house I purchased and I love shopping there! August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Gotta have this to paint- makes clean lines and keeps your cekling and trim protected. Comes off easily as opposed to cheaper brands. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product ever invented Not only is this tape so grotesquely overpriced, it doesn't work at all. First, it doesn't stick to anything. Except to the paint that it pulls off the wall that you don't want it to. Second, it doesn't stop any paint from bleeding though past the tape line. So you'll be touching that up forever. But worst of all, once you try to remove the tape it starts splitting into a thousand strands and strings of tape that will take you hours and hours to remove. It's almost as if what 3M really wants to sell you is razor blades to remove their hideous blue tape. That's where they make the real money. The only problem is there is no other product on the market to compete with this stuff.. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does its job...sorta I bought this tape for two purposes: painting (duh) and mirror removal. It did its job perfectly for the mirror removal. When a section of the mirror shattered this tape help pretty steady, and prevented a much larger accident. However, when used for painting trim, I found that it allowed a little bleeding. Could have been user error... August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sticks well Good tape, sticks well and doesnt allow paint through if you press it sufficiently, and comes off easily when you're done. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good tape What can I say, really. It leaves nice clean lines. It sticks when it's supposed to, & release's nicely when removing. It does what it is supposed to do, thus qualifying it's existance. I would like to see a quality generic tape tho, as Scotch 3M is really PROUD of their product. August 17, 2016
