Rated 5 out of 5Â by pstweed Excellent respirator!
We're renovating an 1800s farmhouse with plaster walls and 1970s blown-in insulation. This respirator has been a literal life saver. Fits great, breathes great, makes me feel very safe. Highly recommended.

I ordered this 3M Professional Multi-Purpose Respirator from the Home Depot website and ended up returning it because it was not quite as described. The summary for this model, the 62023HA1, states this respirator has a drop-down feature, when in fact it does NOT have the drop-down feature; It turns out for that you need model 62023DHA1-C...which happens to be incorrectly pictured here (in the photo that does not show the packaging. The other photo that DOES show the packaging IS correct for this model 62023HA1.) While this product was in my hands, I noticed that nothing on the outer or inner packaging for this model mentions it having the drop-down feature, plus this respirator has a slightly different appearance from the one with the drop-down, most noticeable is that this one has a circular piece at mouth level. (When searching the Internet I noticed other companies selling this 62023HA1 have the same misinformation about it having the drop-down feature, so I'm guessing 3M provided an incorrect description.) Basically, if you want the drop-down feature, look for a "D" in the model number; this one does NOT have it.

This is a well made, economically priced respirator and I bought two, one for me, and one for shop visitors. I don't need a respirator all day every day, but I do use dangerous solvents for extended times often enough that merely working in a well ventilated area is not sufficient.
If you are a professional painter or work daily in toxic atmospheric environments, give these a pass and do be prepared to spend about five times the cost of this reasonably priced and perfectly serviceable respirator.
But if you are a hobby woodworker who needs protection for an occasional use of lacquer thinner, mineral spirits or other solvents, these are just the ticket.
Do be aware that all carbon filter respirators have a service life based on a maximum number of hours of exposure to a solvent laden atmosphere. If you open these up, install the cartridges, and throw them in a drawer, they are losing some service life just absorbing trace pollutants in the atmosphere. I seal mine up in a heavy duty zip closure plastic storage bag between uses in order to maximize the time between filter changes.

This respirator works great around insulation and paint. Without it, I take hours to recover from painting and work in the attic. The filters last a long time and are easy to replace. The last one I had worked great for many years until my dog raided my toolbox. (Not recommended for dog toy use).
