opening sizes, durability

1. I wanted to know inner/outer dimensions of both top and bottom openings. Our cistern has a pipe ready to use for this, hopefully it is similar sized. Our downspout is a regular style metal downspout and I wonder about that hook-up. 2. Have a concern about long freezing temps here and how the unit stands up to that. 3. Do leaves automatically fall out of the unit? It looks looks that. Does other dirt/debris fall from unit or does it need to be opened often? Is there a filter to clean or replace?
