YES, absolutely. I bought the deflector last night. The installation is super easy. Checking it in the morning, the plastic was melted where the heat comes out the most. Note that we have a wall heating unit in which the heating coil and the fan are mounted right behind the grid. It might work better for an AC / vent system which only blows warmed air.

Will this work on a ceiling vent? Will it fit 16" vent?

I was directed by Frost King to use this item for my 16" vent. The item description says this is for Wall use so I'm not sure if this might for for a ceiling vent. My vent is also 16" but I'm confused as the text description says "Expands to fit openings up to 6 in. x 12 in" but the table says "Maximum duct width (in.) 12-1/8 to 16".

This is for a wall register on the side of the wall near the floor and wouldn't work any other way. Keep looking for a deflector that is specifically for a ceiling vent. This is expandable to 16" like it says. You get two pieces that fit together so you can expand them.

Can this be used on the inside of a register? The room next to the plenum is the warmest. a deflector is one way.

Asked by: Slick1
I'm not sure a deflector would work inside a register, especially if your ducts have dampers. Forced air systems usually have adjustable dampers installed between the duct branches. You may be able to manually adjust the amount of air forced into each of the two rooms without using this product by adjusting the dampers.

4-1/8 in. x 10-1/8 in. Plastic Sidewall Heat and Air Deflector is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 24.

I purchased one deflector January 2017, and two more recently. The length can be adjusted easily. The magnets adhere securely to steel, wall or ceiling, registers. Because aluminum is not magnetic, the magnets will not adhere to registers made of aluminum. For aluminum registers—like those used in bathrooms—the deflector can be attached using your register's screws and the slots located at each end of the deflector. The slots can also be used for steel registers if you wish to permanently secure in place. This product is intended to be used with forced air heating and cooling systems. It would melt if used with any type of radiant heating system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Great construction. Magnets are strong. This deflector is large and has two strong magnets so attaching to my ceiling vent is no problem. Some smaller versions have fallen off rather easily but this has worked very well. I highly recommend this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected I read the other reviews before I purchased this and was hesitant bc of the melting complaint and the lacking of the magnetic strength. My vents are on the ceiling in my house and my children are on the other side of the house so I certainly don't want to chance anything happening to theirs. I decided to purchase one just to try it out in my room first then go from there. I have had it for a week now and it hasn't melted nor has it fallen off the ceiling. When I was putting it up I did have to adjust it so that it stuck on the outside of the screws but the magnet was thin enough that it still caught a good grip on the outside edge. Buy it, try it, and return it if it doesn't work. There is always a defected one in every bunch so try exchanging it for another if the first one doesn't work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Air deflector I love this product! The return vents in my living room are located under the windows which made hanging curtains very difficult. The suction from the vents pulled the curtains against the registers disrupting air flow and causing the curtains to get very dirty. I placed these over the registers and the air now flows under the curtains into the vent, the curtain stays clean, and you can't even tell they are there. Installation could not be simpler. I am also using them on the vents which are located in bad spots to redirect the air flow. No more freezing in bed and on the couch when the AC kicks in. Love this simple inexpensive solution. Only wish I had discovered them sooner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 Stars As it Needs Stronger Magnet Overall a good product and does what it is suppossed to. The only draw back is that it falls off sometimes as the side magnets need to be a bit a stronger in my opinion. Plastic is pretty good, I don't know what you can expect from it, but it's suppose to redirect air not withstand a nuclar explosion - anyways. Its pretty good but only prob is it falls off sometimes so needs stronger magnet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Melts if heat is too hot.... Unfortunately, this product does not work for everyone... some people have had good experiences with this, but I bought it for a wall vent in my living room that puts off a fair amount of heat. If you put your hand in front of the vent it gets pretty hot. In my case, the product MELTED within 1/2 hour of use., as has happened with other customers. I guess if you use it on a different kind of vent with lower heat output, maybe it would work fine. But if you have strong forced air heat, this product will work about as well as the price would suggest... not well. I still have yet to find a product that will work for high heat deflection. If anyone knows of one, please let me know!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product, does what it's supposed to. I have several of these installed in my house and have had no problem with them. The magnets are plenty adequate, the plastic is a decent material. The only abuse they get is to be flipped over once per season, and after several years of that they've held up just fine.
