Customer Questions & Answers

why is this water hydrant not for pottable water you can water stock

Asked by: dt12
Thank you for the question, these yard hydrants are designed to be on pressurized water systems. They are not able to pump water from stock tanks or holding tanks.

4 ft. Bury Depth Hydrant is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality, Impossible to Maintain Proper adjustment is critical to operation. Rod goes out of adjustment, rod bends, gland nut/top seal becomes damaged and leaks. The bent rod then prevents rod travel and complete shutoff. Attempts to straighten rod will often result in a broken rod. It looks like the rod is brass -- surprise -- a coupler 6 inches down from the top transitions the rod to steel. The coupler prevents removal of the rod through the top casting, necessitating removal of the top casting -- not easy. Cast iron rusted to steel pipe. The bottom of the rod screws into the valve assembly. Good luck reattaching the rod from above ground. Do not believe the specs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seriously disappointed long term I purchased and installed my hydrant 6 months ago. Worked great initially, but over the summer it has gotten harder and harder to shut off. Later noticed the brass shaft was even bent, and hydrant was always leaking. Finally pulled the head off the top of the pipe to try and figure out what was wrong with it internally. Pulled the center rod out only to find the rubber shut off seal was missing. Turned the main water back on and the rubber shoot out of the hydrant. Best I can tell over time the rubber shut off seal must have unscrewed it self from the end of the rod. This unscrewing over time is what was making the rod longer and making the hydrant harder to fully close and eventually lead to the brass rod getting bent. If I had the receipt for it and it wasn't such a pain to dig it back up, I'd take it back. But instead I'll be looking for a repair kit (rubber seal and brass rod) to repair the existing hydrant. Was a good value and initially worked great, but totally disappointed that in 6 months time and minor useage, it's already junk, when I've seen other that are 30 to 40 years old and never had an issue.
