Customer Questions & Answers

Can these be used in a suspended ceiling grid system?

I have a heavy duty suspended celing capable of holding drywall and need to hang a pool table light. The supports are 2' x 4' so minimum spread is 24+ inches. Also need them for pendant lights and tracklighting
Asked by: basementguy
Hey basement guy, If the suspended ceiling is heavy enough to hold up drywall, it still may not be heavy enough on its own to successfully hold a pool light. Due to its heavy weight, I'd recommend using a junction box with a turnbuckle/chain rated for suspended ceilings. This box system linked below is rated for it. As for the track lighting and pendants, as long as these are lightweight (under 20 lbs. weight), I'd recommend to use the ceiling box you are questioning now. However, at least for the pool light, use the box I linked above. Joseph

Customer Reviews

4 in. Ceiling Box with T-Grid Bar Hanger is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK product, needs extra work This was an OK product, but it needed extra effort to make it work well. It was easy to install in the grid and adjust horizontally, but there was no way to adjust it vertically. The box didn't sit flush with the ceiling tile, which caused the tile to rise up when I tightened down the fixture. There was a 1/2" difference. I solved this problem by placing washers between the screws. It also didn't seen to attach securely to the grid, but this was solved with a few sheet metal screws. After the extra work, the fixture felt solid, but it would have been better if the product worked like this right out of the box.
