How long will the plug maintain pressure? I'm considering getting this (smaller size) to slip into my toilet bowls to winterize for long term storage. After draining the water in the bowl, and having this properly inflated, can I expect the valve and rubber to hold adequate pressure to seal for 6mo? A year?
Asked by: Eric
We do not recommend a pneumatic plug for an application such as yours. This would not be guaranteed to hold for a long period of time or while not monitored.

How far will this plug expande when inflated.

I have a four inch sewer line. When this rubber test ball is inflated how much bigger then 4 inches will it get.
Asked by: silvercreek
This is a single size test ball designed to fit into a 4” diameter pipe with an inside diameter between 3.41” and 4.25”. It is designed to be inflated to 30 psi and hold a pressure in the pipe up to 13 psi.

4 in. Rubber Test Ball Plug is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from test your plumbing system for leaks This is necessary when having your new drain, waste, or vent lines inspected by a inspector, who will want the plug inflated at the end of the line and filled completely with water to check for leaks. You can also do this to your existing system to satisfy your own interest. Although these come in different sizes this 4" will be for your 4" waste line. What I like is that it is made of seemingly quality rubber and has a decent-sized chain to remove easily. What I don't like is that the air fitting is close to the body making it difficult to fill with and let out air. It would be easier if it had the fitting connected by a long tube that the longer test plug utilize. Because of this and because of the price difference, I would consider this a homeowner, single use, or very occasional use for someone in the trades. Any more than a couple times a year use and I would recommend upgrading to the longer, better-performing one.
