Can you mount a security camera on theses boxes? any other recommendations in addition if so?

Can you mount a security camera on theses boxes? any other recommendations in addition if so?
Asked by: Steve
I have several of these boxes on my roof supporting security cameras. They are perfect for this use. I drilled holes in the side to mount the arm that holds the camera away from the building a foot or so. The video and DC power connectors are protected inside this box. I have another of these where the cables come together on the roof and feed down a conduit in the wall to the the DVR down below. Again, perfect for this use because it can be customized for your situation. I used a spade type wood drill bit with the sharp ears. Drill slowly and you'll find you easily get nice clean holes. I replaced the screws after several years with new stainless steel screws. Cables enter the box through bushings intended for round line cords. I bought all the parts from one aisle at Home Depot. Heading there tomorrow to buy some more boxes and bushings to be junction boxes for antenna cables and electronics for some aircraft downlink antennas I'm installing on the roof.

would this be the best box to use for a solar system tie in. It will be exposed on the roof, flat. Can I use caulking to fill holes from wires?

Asked by: Mitch
I have used the bushings intended for line cords to bring cables into this box. The bushings have a foam ring that gets compressed around the wires. If you have multiple wires, you might put a small piece of packing foam between the wires and let the ring of foam prove the rest of the seal. Dress the wires so water runs away from the bushing. I've had boxes with multiple network and antenna cables on my roof for several years and they are always dry when I pop the lid.

Do I just drill holes into the box to make gangs?

Asked by: MES
You got it. You can put the holes wherever you need. I used a punch to mark the center, a pilot drill bit for the initial hole and then followed by a step bit. It was really easy to drill.
