Questions & Answers

Will these post split and crack like pressure treated post usually do

Asked by: Dvd
No, they should not. However, remember that non-pressure treated wood is not for ground contact nor for outdoor projects without protection from the elements. The cracking you see in treated posts is normal (because of shrinkage) and normally does not affect its structural strength. Likewise, pressure-treated wood is not intended for most indoor projects because of the treatment process.

can this be used as a porch post? set on concrete not ground.

Asked by: Lee
It could, but I recommend setting the post on an aluminum post support between the concrete and post so that the end-grain (the end of the post) does not absorb moisture from porch water run-off and cause it to rot. That end grain can really absorb a lot of water. The post support also helps allow excessive moisture to escape. I would also recommend a good water sealer or a proper paint to keep moisture out.

Can this be used as a post for a raised garden?

Can this be used as a post for a raised garden?
Asked by: IslandCapture
It depends on how you are using it. These posts are not pressure treated so they are not intended for ground contact or contact with soil above ground. If you are raising edible plants in your garden, you may want to research and decide whether pressure-treated posts are safe in the soil near your plants.

We do small wood working projects and this is exactly what we have been looking for. It is good quality and non-pressure treated. The only down fall is Florence AL Homedepot is the only place that has it within a 3 hour drive of Shiloh TN. We have called every store even competitors and this is the only store. The hour and a half drive each way is a downfall, but we are thankful we can get it.
