Product Overview

The Surewood-LNL 48 in. x 11-1/2 in. Unfinished Pine Tread is constructed of two pine re-saw layers, applied to a radiate pine, edge glued core. Designed for interior use only, our pine tread features a clean, uniform look that is clear of most knots and imperfections commonly found in solid pine treads. The stable core means resistance to warping, checking and cupping and is perfect for use in carpet-grade, stain or painted tread applications. It has a 1 in. thickness and is sold unfinished, allowing you to finish it to match other stair parts or decor. It will fit stairs up to 48 in. in width and accommodates tread runs up to 11-1/2 in. From stair treads, stair railing and a complete selection of Stair Parts, Surewood-LNL has what you need to make your stairs beautiful.

Please - answer the question that I asked!

Please do not send me the same response that does not answer my question! Frustrating!!!! Can the 11 1/2 side - the short side be routered? I am NOT interested in buying a riser that is over 500% more expensive!!!!! Please answer this very very simple question.
Asked by: Liv2well
THEY DID ANSWER YOUR QUESTION! Yes, it can be routered - ALL wood can be routered. They then proceeded to explain about the end grain taking stain differently. If you are painting, carpeting or are okay with the end grain being stained (it will come out darker) then you don't need to buy the "500% more expensive" item. They warned you and gave you an option. I'd suggest trying some stain on a scrap of wood to see the difference before you decide.

Let me ask this question again a different way.

Can the short side of this tread be routered? The 11 1/2 inch side? My stairwell has two exposed sides. And no, I am not interested in a product that costs 500% more:)
Asked by: Liv2well
you could route if you had the equipment - you would have to match the corner already on the front to avoid a odd corner at that edge. They do sell returns at the store -meant for this - and the edges match- 5$ each - see Model# 8072R-000-HD00L. In my opinion it wouldn't be worth the work to save 5$ a stair.

Can the 11 1/2 inside of the tread be routered so it also has a bullnose?

Asked by: Liv2well
Thank you for your question Liv2well we actually offer a tread that has a return on one side. it is our model# 8531R-048-0000L or internet# 205458964. It is also reversible, so it can be used on a right or left hand open stairway. Thanks again for your question and let use know if we can assist you further.

48 in. x 11-1/2 in. Unfinished Pine Stair Tread is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed I wanted a desk, but I am a very cheap person. So, I bought one of these, chiseled a faux live edge for a bit of character, painted it blue, and attached it to some cheap shelving brackets. For $20 all told, I have a custom, sturdy, stylish desk. Think outside the you box and you'll make magic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality solid pine stair First off, two or three of the other reviews were obviously written by the same (albeit, angry) person. Pine is not my first choice for the most durable stair tread, but these treads are good quality for the price. Others complained that the treads are glued--well, I hope so! If you ever tried to use a single plank as a stair tread you woud soon find that they warp, regardless of how much glue or how many screws you use. Every pine stair tread I ever saw consisted of roughly 2-inch strips glued together with alternating grain direction to prevent warping. Solid wood does not mean a single slab of wood. I do my fair share of bad reviews, but I hate to see a good product get bashed by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Using these as a tabletop/shelf - contrary to one of the recent negative reviews, the image on screen showing a veneer covering glued boards is exactly what they are. I can't speak to their durability as stair treads, but the ones I have don't seem any softer than I'd expect from pine. Excellent value; I couldn't glue up a board myself any cheaper. Also, they appear to be much higher quality than the product at a competing store with a blue sign.

I bought these stair treads after reading the positive reviews and was lead to believe that the image on my computer was what I was buying. I thought I was getting a glued up pine core with a thin veneer covering up the knots. What I saw when I went to the store to pick them up, were unglued solid pine treads without a veneer that were cupped and full of knots. This is not what I wanted so I returned them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from needed to replace old stair treads My old stairs had seen better days so it was time to replace them. I had some 3/4 pine tug and grove laying around so all i needed was the new treads. After a few coats of stain i am very happy it been about 3 months and they are holding up great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alternate Use I've purchased this item several times, and not once for use as a stair. I figured it would make a great DIY shelf platform seeing as it can carry the weight of a human when properly anchored, and it's already rounded on the front side and fits flush with the wall on the back side. I have yet to be disappointed, and the item sells for less that shelf systems that can't carry a fraction of the weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are great! Have used these for a lot of things beyond their intended purpose, including book cases and furniture. Good, solid quality, true to size; I've been very please with them
