This stair tread can be used for any staircase, since it's cheaper than Northern red oak. The building code for a staircase calls for a unit run of 10 1/2 inches, and a unit rise of 7 1/2 inches.

of course I knew purchasing pine treads rather then oak they were going to a softer wood , but the quality of these was so bad that within a month the gouges were 1/8" deep , within a few months most are over 1/4" deep, I will need to replace within the first year since they will start cracking soon. I have other pine treads that held up 20 years before starting to crack and they show no more than surface scratches. these are more like a basswood than pine.

I am really pleased with the unfinished stair tread.

This tread is solid wood with a plywood grade pine skin on the surface. be aware of this in case you (or your customer) are expecting real pine graining look. Looks more like cabinet grade plywood. Nothing like the picture shown online. Overall, it is a stable and durable tread that is easy to work with.

First off, two or three of the other reviews were obviously written by the same (albeit, angry) person. Pine is not my first choice for the most durable stair tread, but these treads are good quality for the price.
Others complained that the treads are glued--well, I hope so! If you ever tried to use a single plank as a stair tread you woud soon find that they warp, regardless of how much glue or how many screws you use. Every pine stair tread I ever saw consisted of roughly 2-inch strips glued together with alternating grain direction to prevent warping. Solid wood does not mean a single slab of wood.
I do my fair share of bad reviews, but I hate to see a good product get bashed by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

I replaced old stair treads with these many years ago. They've been on a staircase with heavy traffic (3 children from school age to young adults and their friends) for at least 15 years. I have since moved into a different home, the stair treads in this house need replacing also and I will most definitely be purchasing these again.

Have used these for a lot of things beyond their intended purpose, including book cases and furniture. Good, solid quality, true to size; I've been very please with them
