Can i use this product to make a sliding window between my kitchen and dining room?

I have a framed opening 36" x 36" just behind the sink that I want to enclose, making a sliding window 2 pieces of 20"x353/4" will do the trick, I think
Asked by: Beev
Sure. But keep in mind these sheets are, at most, 1/8 inch thick so they will "wave" if in large sheets. You can get thicker sheets from specialty retailers and they would remain more suitably rigid.

Can this be used for a Picture cover?

I make mosaic and cross stitch pictures and submit them to the Veterans National Creative Arts Festival. They require that you only use plexiglass. Can this be used in a picture frame? How do you cut this? (what tools).
Asked by: veteran7227
Hi Veteran7227, thank you for your service. This product can be used in picture frames. Here is a link below to show you the tools to work with this product. Basically it is a plastic cutting knife. http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/5c/5c931060-03fe-4272-98e9-f53613827da4.pdf

Acrylic sheet can be used in this application. If 1/8" is not strong enough, please use 1/4" sheet.

Can the acrylic sheet be used for an outdoor patio table

Asked by: newdiyer
Acrylic scratches too easily, so even thicker sheets from specialty retailers wouldn't be good for that application.

Customer Reviews

48 in. x 96 in. x 1/8 in. Acrylic Sheet is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Prices Around SHIPPING/PACKAGING: I purchased a single sheet to test how easy it would be to enclose my screen porch, then purchased another 12 sheets to finish the job. The single sheet was shipped to my local Home Depot quickly and for free. It was packaged first in bubble wrap, then inside a corrugate box with edge protectors and extra sheets of corrugate on the sides. The box was rigid enough to tie to the top of my SUV without fear of bending. After I proved to myself that the sheets would serve my purpose, I purchased another 12 sheets delivered to my home. Shipping took several days longer than the original single sheet shipment to the Home Depot, but the convenience of not having to put a couple hundred pounds on my SUV rack was well worth it. The 12 sheets came in 3 or 4 packages of multiple sheets with extra sheets of corrugate on the side for protection (no bubble wrap needed). The outer corrugate was slightly scuffed, but the sheets were well protected inside. My only recommendation is to be sure that the delivery people carry the sheets on end, as it would bend severely (and potentially break?) under its own weight if carried horizontally. PRODUCT FEATURES: The acrylic sheets are stronger than they look and have allowed me to enclose my screen porch to keep the pollen out of my porch during the heavy Atlanta pollen season. HOW TO CUT, DRILL, and GRIND - BEST PRACTICES: After reading many articles about how to work with acrylic sheet and trying several techniques myself, I can offer the following advice... To cut the sheets, it helps if you place the acrylic sheet on a board of foam insulation to support it. Use a circular saw with a 40-tooth carbide blade and a straight edge guide. Set the depth so the blade goes about 1/2" past the bottom of the sheet and just cut right through the foam insulation. If you just have a single short cut to make, you could use an acrylic scoring tool, but I had way too many to make that practical. Drilling can be problematic: if you drill too fast, it can crack the panel; if you drill with the wrong bit or don't use water, it can leave a very unsightly (slightly melted) hole with chips around the edge that could later crack; if you make the hole too small, it could stress the panel since it expands/contracts much more than glass would. In my case, I placed the acrylic sheets behind framed screen panels that were attached to the porch framing with screws. Since the screw holes were close to the edge, I used a Foredom grinder and a 3/8" rotary HSS burr to grind a slot in from the edge. This left a very clean edge without any chipping, was easy to control, and I even rounded off the corners to make it safe and easy to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shopped around on different websites, but... Home Depot had the best buy for the best size and the best shipping deal. A couple other places local wanted a minimum of $150 purchase and/or $150 shipping. Oy! No thank you. Home Depot gave us the size we needed at a great price plus shipped to our local store for free! We just purchased a brand new hard wood kitchen table and are owned by a couple of cats. They love to run and play and slide on the kitchen table. This plexi saves the finish and keeps the table looking new. The table is mostly for looks when not in use for holiday meals. Again, for us it was a great price and the shipping to our local Home Depot was fast, free and convenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly Clear I used this product to make large windows on the gable end of a 3 season porch. The largest was 4' wide x 5' tall. Everyone who looks a the windows is amazed at how clear they are. People don't believe there are windows because its so clear. I've had to stop some from trying to climb up and touch them. Product was a little tricky to cut. At first I tried to score and break a large piece but it didn't work well because I forgot to remove the plastic sheeting from the back side where I scored it. This caused the break to go crooked at one side. Lucklily I was able to salvage the piece. I then went and bought a fine tooth saw blade and cut the remaining pieces with my circular saw. This worked much better. Overall product is great for windows. My only recomendations are (1) have a helper because its tricky moving large pieces up a ladder and securing them in position, and (2) don't remove the plastic protective sheeting until the windows are completely installed and all of your painting is done. I used a razor knife to lightly score the plastic at the edge of the windows and then it peeled right off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Works for storm windows. I needed to build some windows for a new workshop and cover some floor to ceiling Windows.. These worked great. I am stilling in the process of building the Windows. I Have cut all kind of size pieces. Just get a blade for cutting plastic at Home Depot and use your power saw. So far not a single chip. Make sure you brace the sheet so it doesn't flex when cutting. I laid it on the floor on top of 2x4's turned on their edge. That give u plenty of clearance for the saw blade. Don't remove the plastic cover until you are already to install....keep it clean and scratch free. For my Windows I just used a razor cutter after I had finished building them and cut around the frames. It was easy to just peal away the cover. Also, I suggest that when it's delivered open the box and inspect the counters before u accept the shipment. All of mine have been perfect and wrapped with care but it they damaged then just refuse it. Highly recommended...this is a good product. Oh, drilling holes. Just take it easy and make sure you have it on a firm surface. I haven't had a single problem and I have drilled a couple of hundred holes so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Do not listen to most of the reviews on here. If you have any do-it-yourself type of ability or know-how, this is very easy to work with. I am fairly skilled in woodworking, etc. but have no experience in glass/ plexi-glass cutting. After reading these reviews and much consideration, I ended up going with the Acrylic over the Poly. The price difference was too great. It shipped to the store in a few days and I picked it up with no problems. It was not damaged at all. I was extremely careful with it cutting the first time because most of these reviews talk like it is so easy to break. I cut it with a cordless circular saw with a fine (108 tooth) blade. It cut so smoothly and easy- no chipping, cracking, or melting. After the first cut, I just ran my saw through the other cuts without any hesitation. They all cut with a clean edge and I had no problems, at all. I have come to realize that most people probably did not know what they were doing and did not use common sense when going to cut it. The only complaint, I guess, was that I was hoping the 1/8 thickness would be a little less flimsy, but it was perfectly fine for the windows I made with it. I would definitely buy this again and/or recommend it to anyone. Just use a good blade and some sense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WAS WHAT I EXPECTED THE ACRYLIC SHEET WAS JUST AS I EXPECTED AND ARRIVED EARLIER THAN PROMISED. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE TRANSACTION BUT DUE TO THE SHIPPING COST, WISH IT HAD BEEN AVAILABLE AT THE STORE. REGARDS, M. TURNER

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good plexi for the money Glad I went with the 1/8, it is plenty thick and strong enough for cutting and window usage. I used this on my barn and cut custom size windows using circular saw with high tooth count(140) put on backwards. More or less melts the plastic but works well. Sheets come with usual protective coating which stayed in place while cutting. Sheets shipped on pallets as to ensure no chipping or breaking. Even got help putting in my pickup. Very clear, can hardly tell there is a window there.
