I need to replace my ceiling bath exhaust fan. It just quit working. Can i just buy a new exhaust fan and change them out? or is there more i should k

Asked by: whtrabbit1
try to find one with the same size cut-out and is designed to install from the inside. The wiring is there and sometimes the exhaust tub is there. Getting up in the attic is not fun.

my 20 years old 678 fan /light will a new one fit in to the same hole?

can not tell the size of the one you are selling
Asked by: george
The housing is the same size, however I don't think you can replace the housing without making the hole in the ceiling bigger, because you can't get at the old or new mounting tabs on the housing without making the hole bigger...and then you've got some patching to do. You can replace some or all of the components, such as the motor, light reflector, grill and lens....everything but the sheet metal housing pieces. The internal mounting holes are all the same.

Do I need to buy seperate duct work etc.

I am trying to replace a fan that is already installed. However, previous owners did not properly vent this. They only ran it to the attic. Do I need to purchase extra materials to properly install this, or is it all included?
Asked by: Sam
You would need additional duct to vent this fan to the outside. The 678 is just the fan unit. All ductwork is purchased separately.

Kids bathroom did not have an exhaust fan when I purchased the house 6 years ago. So I was indecisive as to what brand or model to buy as this was my first time installing one. Installation not a hassle, no problems. However, I am somewhat not pleased with my ventilation fan/light. It is NOT quiet at all. Actually it is pretty loud. It is not as effective as I would have liked, but that is on me. A feature I do like is that I can use just about any bulb, the brighter the better for me, so that's a plus. Regardless everything works fine and hope it continues to work for many years. I have had it for 5 years now. I am remodeling the master bath now and will most definitely consider buying another Broan, however a little bigger. So overall it is a steal of a purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Broan fan/light originally I was only going to purchase just a fan. I changed my mind and got one with a light. Best decision I ever made. I didn't realize how dark it really was in my shower until installing this fan/light combo. The fan is very quiet and more than does the job in my tiny bathroom. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality The same model fan this one replaced died in 3 years. The new one already has problems. The light bulb fixture does not work. Old fan had same problem. This is a very low quality builder grade fan and I would not recommend anyone purchase it. Even Customer Service Rep at Broan said it was a low quality fan.

This fan fit the bill, although it was more difficult to install than I thought it would be. It was easier to remove just the old motor/fan assembly and replace it with the new motor/fan assembly

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very quiet and looks good Needs better lighting, but fan is very quiet. Installation was quick and easy while being well made.. The bulbs it uses are weak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good For The Price It's hard to find a fan and light with a small footprint at a reasonable price. We installed two of them about four years ago and now are replacing them with identical units. Both fans still worked, but were making horrendously loud noise. When new these fans are very quiet. We use both bathrooms a lot and fans run for periods of time, so I would say life expectancy was okay. Replacing old fans with identical new ones means no additional stress for installation (no recutting ceiling, no repainting, etc.). Because the price was so reasonable, I am not unduly upset about how long they lasted before making what we considered unacceptable noise levels.
