Answer:
Theoretically: The volume is 8 ft x 8 ft x 8/12 ft = 42 2/3 cubic ft. Each bag is labeled 0.5 cubic ft or 1/2 cubic foot so it will take two bags per cubic feet. Therefore to fill 8 inches deep it should take 83 1/3 bags. Since each bag weighs 50 Lbs, the total weight is a 4250 Lbs.
Maybe you don't want to fill it to the top.

Answer:
Most of sand is small granules of quartz, which is the natural compound silicon dioxide, also called silica. So, yes, it does have silicon in it, but it is so chemically inert and firmly attached to the oxygen, so that it is not poisonous.

Yes, play sand is a great product to use for the bottom of a steel fire pit. It is the most common sand used for steel fire pits. It helps control heat and the longevity of the pit.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by It's sand Not much more to say about this product. It was convenient and quick for our needs. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Sand for Sand boxes. I just purchased this sand for a sand box I bought my sons. It is smooth with no rocks compared to other brands! It is perfect for building sand castles. Would definitely recommend if you are going to use in a sand box. May 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT STUFF! Seriously people, you know you bought this sand because it is the cheap stuff. So don't complain and ruin it for the rest of us. I have a HUGE sandbox for my grand kids and it took 25 bags of sand to fill. It only cost me $75 to fill with this sand. Yes! It has small pebbles in it. It also has clumps of clay in it. The kids called the pebbles treasure. "GRANDMA!!! I FOUND TREASURE!!!!!" We used the clay in molds and made amazing things, promoting their use of imagination! It is like a beach adventure to play with this GREAT STUFF! It isn't "bleached play sand." The bag clearly states that you are buying "NATURAL PLAY SAND' May 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by . NOT FOR SANDBOX My daughter broke out in an awful full body rash from this sand NOT good for sandbox... Good sand for yard NOT for kids to play in.. March 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It's not play sand I purchased several bags of this to fill up my son's sandbox. As I was smoothing out the sand I found rocks mixed in with the sand. I found mostly pea sized rocks, but there were some as large as a golf ball. DO NOT buy this sand for a sandbox. July 17, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by CRUSHED ROCKS Terrible product. We bought two bags and upon dumping them into our children's sand box we realized they were cruched rocks. I just contacted the company about them so will see what they say. July 13, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible play sand! Washed and screened?! It's full of ROCKS and clay! You need to change the description or actually screen your product! This would probably be fine for any use other than a sandbox. July 11, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product Bags broken open by loaders. Sand was good quality with little small gravel mixed in. Good for pavers but not child's sandbox. Better sand available at lower price for same quantity. June 16, 2015
