Why can't a real answer (maybe from Phillips) be given to the question already asked about the difference between this bulb and the cheaper but seemingly similar Phillips PAR 20 50W bulb also sold by Home Depot? That other bulb has a National Grid discount at my local Home Depot so is only $2 each. So 10x cheaper. I have been buying those bulbs to replace halogen lights in recessed fixtures in our new house. And they seem to work really nicely. What am I missing??
Asked by: Fred
The package for the other PAR 20 lights that have the same specs but much lower price says "Model 9290012254". Hope that helps get an answer. Thanks.

Why is this bulb over 3x the cost of the other LED 50W PAR20 bulb?

There is another Philips bulb that has identical specs, but is over 3x cheaper. Does anybody know why? I noticed the (E)* in the name, but otherwise identical as far as I can tell.

Customer Reviews

50W Equivalent Bright White PAR20 Dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb (E)* is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Penetrating Spot - Rare for an LED Par20 I have an art gallery, and this is a great bulb to replace old halogens, because it is a preferred medium-warm temperature for art (3000K), and it has the preferred narrow penetrating focus. The 470 lumen output balances the other lighting in my gallery. I have bought lots of these and am saddened HD has removed them from the retail shelves, so I will buy them online for as long as possible. For those reviewers who complain of poor performance with a dimmer or a cooktop hood's low setting, it's because these lamps use only 8 watts, which is probably below the minimum load requirements for your dimmer, causing hum, flicker, or no light at all. To meet this minimum, you need to have several bulbs on same load, as I have, or switch to an CFL/LED-purposed dimmer. It's not the fault of the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better of the Par20's for sure I purchased this to replace an incandescent PAR20 over my washing machine that kept breaking. I seemed to be replacing 2 incandescent models/year over the laundry area. Then coincidentally I saw my wife flip up the laundry basket, hit the incandescent light and pop it... so I found the cause! The first time she blew an incandescent I purchased this and it's a really nice spread out light. There's many LED bulbs in a circular pattern. When she blew the other incandescent I think I got a GE model, it had one bright LED in the middle and that one is just too focused it's more like a flashlight this one is the better choice, the extra # of LED's causes a more even spread out light instead of one focused beam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bright LED light I bought these lights for a track light in a hallway. I was surprised how bright they were. They use little electricity and should still be lighting the hall after I'm dead and gone (joke) - I'm 73.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bright light, but won't work on "low" setting of range hood Bought these for my range hood which requires two PAR20 bulbs. Both work on "High" setting but lights will not come on for "low" setting. Sort of disappointed since they are dimmable bulbs.
