I prefer the durability and safety of metal surge protectors/power strips. I bought this instead of a less expensive power strip because it proudly proclaims on the box that it is a "metal surge protector".
Well, it has a metal cover plate. And that's the only part of the power strip that's visible from outside the packaging, so there's no reason to believe that every other part of it is made of plastic.
There are two plastic end caps, and the entire base/chassis is plastic.
Otherwise it seems like a power strip of reasonable quality. But I can't recommend it because it's sold as a "metal surge protector" and the majority of it is plastic.

I have six of these Defiant power strips conveniently placed around the house. It's my preferred power-strip brand. It is the easiest power strip to mount securely to the wall because each end has a little mounting tongue. I just screw it right onto he drywall with a plastic anchor and screw. The Defiant power strip doesn't wiggle away from the wall when I unplug things like the cheaper strips do. TIP: I cover the glowing-red pilot light with black nail polish so I don't have little lights glowing all over the house at night.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Leonsongbird I brought power to my island!
I installed this item on a small, granite-topped kitchen island on casters so I could plug in kitchen appliances with short cords (some only 12 inches long) in my work space. My kitchen counters have no plug-ins! I have an old house with very few outlets, and the 4-foot cord on the surge protector allows me to bring "power to my island", and plug in my stand mixer, food processor, spice grinder, etc. as I use them. It took 5 minutes to install (it has screw slots at each end), and my appliances run to perfection. My appliances have a mix of polarized and non-polarized plugs, and all of them fit. I'm very happy!

I screwed this inside my desk and then found it impossible to plug in a plug with two equal prongs. No amount of pushing could get my Apple computer plug or re-charger plugs into the outlets. 3-prong plugs go in, as do w-prongs with one bigger than the other, but something keeps out the smaller plugs. What a waste of time!

It is a fine product, but best of all it can be screwed down to surfaces. Great for clearing clutter from the floor of my home office.
