Answer:
It is intended that the existing face plate be removed. The screw supplied with the unit will secure the unit to the the existing duplex outlet. The prongs install in the top and the plastic peg installs in the lower outlet for stability.

I researched and couldn't find what the LED indicators meant on the unit. I called 866-308-3976 and chose option 2. I was told that the product purchased last year is now being manufactured by another company and that the product purchased last year might be defective. I was told to take it back to Home Depot for an exchange or refund. I informed the representative that I no longer had the receipt. The representative called the Home Depot where I purchased the units and spoke with the assistance manager. To get to the point, I exchanged the two units I purchase last year, installed the new units in the same two outlets, and both units have green LEDs. Read Less

Unit Quit Working??

To those of you that indicated your unit quit working, did you ever stop to thing that you had an electrical surge on your power line and this unit stopped it and protected your equipment. If that did happen, of course the unit will stop working and stop the incoming power, just as it is designed to do.

Just purchased this and am reading the Defiant Limited Warranties: "Home Depot warrants to the original consumer that it will, at its sole option, repair or replace any equipment properly connected through this product.....which is damaged by surges or spikes (an "Occurrence") for the lesser or three years....

Then two paragraphs down it goes on to say:
THIS SURGE PROTECTOR LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER DAMAGES:
- As a result of an Occurrence

Answer:
Agreed! After reading, all I could think is what does it cover? Clearly 99% of what could go wrong is Not covered. What's the point other than looks on the box for marketing purposes. Completely misleading. Just hoping the product works.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saved Thousands of $$$ of Equipment! I'm a professional photographer currently working on a nationwide project. When I'm on the road all my photos are stored on a 24 terabyte hard disc array I have in my motorhome. I also have laptops, printers, scanners, and more. A recent massive surge destroyed one of these surge protectors. Even though the protector was hit so hard that it fried the thing into a stinky piece of burnt electrical slag, all of my expensive computer and camera equipment was saved! My microwave was not on a surge protector and it died from the power surge. Suffice it to say I'm very pleased with this product! June 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great surge protecion Does the job...extra receptacle points and surge protector in a compact package! July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product There's a wiring problem in my house at the moment and another surge protector I have burned today and ruined a device i had plugged up to it but this one is still working great and everything plugged into it is still good. It's a good price, easy to connect. I like that it screws into the outlet because not only does it stay connected but I'm pretty sure that the screw is the grounding point. I also like the easy to read lights to let you know its still working. November 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product After losing the computer on our washer from a power surge, I installed these on all the critical outlets. We have an antique power grid in our area, surges and lighting strikes all the time. These have soaked them up and saved our appliance and electronics several times, recommend highly. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Easy to intall. Great price for a 6 outlet surge protector. I have a few of these around the house. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value and good product. I have many of these in my home and shop. All are working perfectly protecting my valuable items. The one pictured is protecting my garage door opener. September 19, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by product is okay, instructions not included. this product assumes that the face plate on your outlet has a screw in the center of the outlets. It comes with a screw to secure it using that spot. i thought it was for greater pourpose but its not. this adapter will also have a plastic stub to insert into ground at the lower outlet.
