Customer Questions & Answers

Would this product reduce noise from duct expansion/contraction during the heating season?

Asked by: Anthony
While it does mute these noises somewhat, it won't eliminate them entirely. The purpose of this product is heating/cooling energy conservation, not sound deadening.

can I staple this to the inside of my spa cover for moisture control and keep heat in?

can I staple this to the inside of my spa cover for moisture control and keep heat in?
Asked by: grace
I think that would not work. It's not intended for moist conditions. I suspect that the fiberglass would saturate with water vapor making it too heavy for staples. It might also have a mold problem.

Is this wrap meeting fire safety building codes if left exposed in my storage attic (without sheetrock protection)?

Asked by: Paulholland
If you mean "does it substitute for 1 hour fire rated Sheetrock" most likely no. Foil and fiberglass are insulators, not fire containment materials. But check with whatever agency enforces your locally adopted fire code for a better answer on how you want to install it. Local codes and code interpretations vary and it often comes down to what the local inspector will approve.

is this wrap mold resistant

if condensation gets in the wrap is it moisture resistant?
Asked by: mopo
It's just regular fiberglass as far as I know, so probably not. Personally I would not use it in that situation.

However, I would suggest that you use the Nashua Foil-Scrim-Kraft Insulating Tape to join the edges together. This specialized laminated tape is stronger, bonds the seam better than plain foil tape and gives a professional finished look to the installation. I'd also suggest using a couple lengths of Velcro One-Wrap Strapping to temporarily hold the insulation's seam together prior to taping; sure makes it easier when working alone.

My wife and I did our whole 3-bed 2-bath house and plenum with four of these babies and only took us about 2.5 hours with a break in the middle, our ducts are under the house in a buildup not a crawlspace or attic. Wear a dust mask of some kind and long clothes. Easy cut with scissors, use good foil tape. I had exposed metal ducts and measured an average temp increase at inside vents from 110 to 125 degrees F using a laser thermometer, that is a 25 percent increase in heat output what a difference!

I used this to insulate the supply and return air ducting between the furnace and the round duct work that came with the insulation attached. It worked fine. It has a nice fold out tab on one edge that makes it easy to tape the joints between the wraps of insulation. I had no problems with the foil backing tearing. All and all a very nice prioduct.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Duct insulation Worked well the only reason I have 4* is . Where the over lap is on the rolls makes it difficult to wrap. I retired from the industrial HVAC business

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best duct insulation! We spent 3 days in a cramped (though dry and bug-free) crawlspace checking the alignment and connection of our air ducts. This insulation was easy to handle and easy for us to cut, wrap, and tape while on our backs or sitting hunched over. The fiberglass did NOT shred or flake as it did with the Frost King brand. Master Flow is the only brand we'll ever use again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helped cleanup a poor installation job I had Home Depot install a Mistubishi mini split heat pump in my home. They did a horrible job, it took almost 6 months and several attempts before it finally passed inspection (I hear that many never do). After the installation was finalized, I used this product to cover up the horrible bubble-wrap insulation they used when they installed it. It worked great for this use.
