Have a clogged gutter line which is clear (now) from roof to ground, but the pipe in the ground is clogged with old leaves and pine needles. I cleaned out as much as possible, but can't get all the way in. Can I use this product to help break the old leaves and stems down to it will drain properly again ?
Asked by: gc
Septic Shock will decompose leaves however it will not work on a completely clogged drain so its probably best to use a snake to remove the remaining leaves. Goodluck! If you have any questions, please call our helpline 1-800-613-4242. Thank you!

Asked by: Josey
No. You need attention to your septic system immediately. Sewage run off is also illegal in most towns.

If you are going to use a product like this, use it correctly or don't waste your money. Any review that states they added a bottle and the issue was resolved, is not a true representation of what this product does. If your septic system is backing up, you have neglected it to the point where you now have a major issue. I strongly suggest the following steps to get what you're paying for by using this product. 1. Have your septic tank pumped immediately! Don't run to Home Depot and buy a bottle of this, or any other product, thinking it will clear your system. It will not. 2. After the tank is pumped, make sure your drain line from the house to the tank is clear. The company that pumps your tank will have you flush a toilet to make sure the water is reaching the tank. If water is flowing into the tank, good. If not, your main drain to the tank is plugged and this product will not help you! 3. If your main line to the tank is clear and your tank is now pumped out, proceed to obtain this product AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. You will add one, or as I suggest, TWO bottles of this product immediately. Be aware that Home Depot may not have much in stock in the store, so GO ONLINE AND ORDER A CASE OF THIS PRODUCT NOW. DON'T WAIT. YOU WILL BE ADDING THIS PRODUCT WEEKLY FOR A WHILE. 4. OK, your tank has been pumped and you have two bottles of this product in the tank (flush down in toilet is fine). Try not to do a clothes wash load within two days of adding product to system. The bleach and soap will kill the bacteria you just added. Give the system two days without detergents if you can. Now, in two days from first use of the product, ADD ANOTHER BOTTLE. You now have 3 bottles of product in your system within 3 or 4 days. Good. I suggest you don't add the product to close to doing wash loads. Maybe skip the days laundry when you use this product that day. 5. Wait 3 days and ADD YOUR 4TH BOTTLE. YES, YOUR 4TH BOTTLE. That's why I said order a case right away. 6. OK, now you will go on a WEEKLY SCHEDULE of adding one bottle a week to your system. Not on the same day you do laundry. 7. You will continue this schedule until you use up two cases of this product. Then you should be able to go on a MONTHLY SCHEDULE, ONE BOTTLE PER MONTH FOR A LONG TIME. Ok, I know what your thinking. This is expensive and I am not spending this much money. So, to that I will say this: Your system has backed up. This is telling you your tank and fields are in serious need of some type of service. You have two choices: Replace your septic system, or use a product to recondition your system in hopes to recover some of its original capacity. Your septic tank holds probably 1000 gallons. Your septic fields are many feet of perforated piping under ground. You want to add chemicals to breakdown solids in the tank, and recondition the earth in your fields to all water to leach into the earth again. Honestly, being that you probably need a new $25,000 septic system, you are balking at spending a hundred bucks on a product to try to recondition it? Also, any product you add as maintenance to your system has to work against the constant barrage of soaps and bleaches you dump in your system. All are very detrimental to its functioning properly. So, unless you are going to replace your septic system, either use this product correctly or don't waste your money. It is a good product, working well for me in a septic system INSTALLED IN THE LATE 1960s. Give it a try. Good luck!

After 5 treatments to correct drain-field issues I can recommend this product. Please research topics for this type of product. Overall effectiveness is "good". Does help in reducing "scum" layer and breakdown of waste and paper after professional inspection. Has definitely helped with gradual elimination of slow flushes. Nothing is as effective as a professional inspection and recommended pumping of septic tank. Please educate yourself on how your type of septic system works!

Our septic and drain field had been sluggish, so I did have the tank pumped out. I've been using Septic Shock regularly since the pumping, and even though the septic guy said I'd have the same problem again within a year, it hasn't happened in the 3 years since. The ingredients are keeping the system happy, and that makes me happy!
