Answer:
Thank you for your question. This product does not have a breathable moisture barrier. The moisture barrier is installed against the carpet which prevents spills from going thru the pad for easy cleanup.

Answer:
It is made from extra unused Nike shoe scraps and has an attached moisture barrier. It provides sound-dampening and insulation, but is not described as breathable.

Answer:
Yes, you can use this padding for under area rugs. You will need to use an anti-slip tape from the floor to the padding to prevent sliding or bunching.

You can absolutely use this carpet padding for the area rug, just make sure you have good rug traction tape to ensure it is safely ensure it is down on the floor without movement.
I realize you are probably renting in the apartment, but you can also help deaden sounds by adding screws into the wood floors (if that's what you have).

I only mention it bc some of the sound-deadening screws we sell have heads that snap-off, leaving you with a clean look like nothing was ever put into the wood floor.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tunnels in carpet We had our carpet and eco-friendly Nike pad installed about 3.5 years ago. About 8 months ago I noticed a lifting in the carpet in our closet. At first I thought it looked like a rodent tunneled through it, then I decided it must need re-stretching. The carpet is out of installation warranty so my hands were tied. Over the last couple of months there has been tunneling on both sides of the bed, as seen in uploaded picture and it's now starting in front of the bed. It is also beginning in our office. We are retired and there is only two of us. We are probably going to have to replace all three rooms eventually with new padding and carpet. Needless to say that is an expense for retired people. I write out of frustration, and now that I see that others have had issue with the Nike product, I think perhaps it's time for Home Depot to address this. Perhaps the manufacturer needs to have a recall. I hope Home Depot can do something about this issue. In the meantime, we don't recommend the purchase of this product. September 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic Pieces embedded in pad Since our carpet was installed a few months ago, we noticed various spots where it felt like something hard was under the carpet. Pulled up carpet to see that there was firm-plastic like pieces in the pad. Called HD to see if anything could be done, and they said no-that that is how it is made since it is made out of recycled materials and that all of their eco-recycled pads can be the same way. Apparently they use any part of the shoe. Don't know who would want to have plastic in something that is supposed to be soft and add cushion. Would not recommend. June 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not good quality I had the fireworks II carpet installed over this Nike pad before selling my TH last summer. We had the installers come back twice b/c there was obvious bumps under the carpet in various spots. Turns out, the pad was ripped in those spots which is an obvious problem. I don't think the pad was ripped when it was deilvered, so my best guess is when the installers stretched the carpet, the pad underneath wasn't very durable and ripped in a lot of spots. Next time we have our carpets replaced, which I intend to do in spring, I am purchasing the most expensive pad -- hopefully it is more durable. October 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality carpet, but want better delivery options. The carpet is of very good quality. I installed carpet in the 70's and 80's professionally, and the backing is a good bit more brittle than I remember it. The backing seems like a synthetic composite rather than the old fashioned (and tougher/more pliable) jute, but overall it installed well, looks just, is just like the sample, and feels great. My family is thrilled. However the obligation of picking it up and hauling it to my house myself was onerous. I would have paid ~$100 to have it brought the 9 miles from the local Home Depot to my home. HD should re-think the delivery options. April 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Eco friendly quality Love this stuff! This is the second time I've purchased this product. Way better cushion than standard construction grade. Installed over cement floors in basement and feels soft as if it were over wood. Just make sure if purchasing in store you get assistance. Rolls are heavy and you don't want to mistakenly purchase a roll damaged by water. June 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent pad We purchased this pad a year ago to go under new carpet. I had it laid by a professional installer who lightly glued the center portions and tacked it to the parameter tack strip. I don't know if they have changed the manufacturing components since then, but it is noiseless and comfortable to walk on. I would not be looking at replacing it now except that we had a massive flood from the unit above forcing us to replace one small section of the pad due to mousture. December 28, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lumpy and Noisy I'm heading to HD right now to talk about my recent installation. The Nike padding is lumpy feeling. In one spot in a traffic area, there is a hard lump which feels like a rock under a shoe. The installer came back, pulled up the carpet, and showed me the firm, dime sized, full thickness piece he removed, which was hard as a rock. Much to my surprise, there is still a lump. Not sure if he removed a different lump or what. Also, in a prominent living room spot is a place which croaks like a frog. I gave it a week hoping it would resolve but it's still very loud. I can squeak it 10 times and there's no change in the sound. There are smaller squeak spots elsewhere. Overall, it feels uneven and slightly lumpy. I'm not very happy with it...maybe I got a bad roll(?) April 8, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality, compresses easily, too soft. I'm 68 years old, and have built a number of houses, and I have never had a problem with carpet padding until using this pad. It compresses very easily, and does not support weight, allowing one to feel whatever is your subfloor. If concrete, that is what you are going to feel, and if it is a traffic area as a hallway, the pad compresses with very little use. I have had the pad for 3 months, and I am the only occupant of the house, and at traffic points, the pad is permanently compressed. I'm surprised that anyone would sell this pad, since it has no redeeming features, it isn't even that cheap, and it does a very poor job. I have rental houses, and the pads I put in those which were cheaper than this pad, have worked significantly better. February 20, 2016
