Is this a breathable moisture barrier?

Thank you for your question. This product does not have a breathable moisture barrier. The moisture barrier is installed against the carpet which prevents spills from going thru the pad for easy cleanup.

7/16 in. Thick 8 lb. Density Carpet Cushion is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK This pad is good and comfortable once installed under a thick carpet, but there are issues to watch out for. I've gotten 3 different batches of this pad due to renovations and water damage repairs. One of the the batches had crinkly noises from the water barrier layer -- noticeable when bare but not when covered by thick carpet. All batches had minor bits of hard material in the pad, again noticeable when bare but not when under thick carpet. This pad is difficult to cut with even the sharpest of blades, so I had better luck with scissors. Finally, when trying to cut a straight line, the printed pattern is not a reliable guide because it is stretched unevenly during manufacturing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good quality I had the fireworks II carpet installed over this Nike pad before selling my TH last summer. We had the installers come back twice b/c there was obvious bumps under the carpet in various spots. Turns out, the pad was ripped in those spots which is an obvious problem. I don't think the pad was ripped when it was deilvered, so my best guess is when the installers stretched the carpet, the pad underneath wasn't very durable and ripped in a lot of spots. Next time we have our carpets replaced, which I intend to do in spring, I am purchasing the most expensive pad -- hopefully it is more durable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tunnels in carpet We had our carpet and eco-friendly Nike pad installed about 3.5 years ago. About 8 months ago I noticed a lifting in the carpet in our closet. At first I thought it looked like a rodent tunneled through it, then I decided it must need re-stretching. The carpet is out of installation warranty so my hands were tied. Over the last couple of months there has been tunneling on both sides of the bed, as seen in uploaded picture and it's now starting in front of the bed. It is also beginning in our office. We are retired and there is only two of us. We are probably going to have to replace all three rooms eventually with new padding and carpet. Needless to say that is an expense for retired people. I write out of frustration, and now that I see that others have had issue with the Nike product, I think perhaps it's time for Home Depot to address this. Perhaps the manufacturer needs to have a recall. I hope Home Depot can do something about this issue. In the meantime, we don't recommend the purchase of this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic Pieces embedded in pad Since our carpet was installed a few months ago, we noticed various spots where it felt like something hard was under the carpet. Pulled up carpet to see that there was firm-plastic like pieces in the pad. Called HD to see if anything could be done, and they said no-that that is how it is made since it is made out of recycled materials and that all of their eco-recycled pads can be the same way. Apparently they use any part of the shoe. Don't know who would want to have plastic in something that is supposed to be soft and add cushion. Would not recommend.

I don't know if it will hold up over time. I was told there was a problem with the manufacture of the padding last year, (causing noise when walking on it)which has since been resolved(hence some of the reviews about noise). Hopefully the smell will go away soon. I wanted something really non-toxic, and had ordered a different padding but Home Depot switched my order to this without asking me! This is Green Guard plus certified but not Leeds certified for low VOCs. (low emitting of chemicals into the air).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eco friendly quality Love this stuff! This is the second time I've purchased this product. Way better cushion than standard construction grade. Installed over cement floors in basement and feels soft as if it were over wood. Just make sure if purchasing in store you get assistance. Rolls are heavy and you don't want to mistakenly purchase a roll damaged by water.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lumpy and Noisy I'm heading to HD right now to talk about my recent installation. The Nike padding is lumpy feeling. In one spot in a traffic area, there is a hard lump which feels like a rock under a shoe. The installer came back, pulled up the carpet, and showed me the firm, dime sized, full thickness piece he removed, which was hard as a rock. Much to my surprise, there is still a lump. Not sure if he removed a different lump or what. Also, in a prominent living room spot is a place which croaks like a frog. I gave it a week hoping it would resolve but it's still very loud. I can squeak it 10 times and there's no change in the sound. There are smaller squeak spots elsewhere. Overall, it feels uneven and slightly lumpy. I'm not very happy with it...maybe I got a bad roll(?)
