What is the LENGTH? (When looking at the image), the distance from the left side to the right? Ok for range hood use?

Incredibly, the second most important spec is left out! What is the LENGTH? (When looking at the image), the distance from the left side to the right?

And, can this adapter be used on a range hood? The one we want oddly has a 6" opening instead of the typical residential 7" (which is what the existing duct is).

(I'd also like to know why is it impossible to FOLLOW-UP on a Q&A? We can't even THANK the people that reply! And why must we keep "logging in" and entering our info for EACH question asked, even on the SAME page, even though "Remember me on this device" IS CHECKED??)

Thanks.

There are TWO OPPOSITE ANSWERS to a question here:

"Which end is male and which end is female?"

A1: "The male end is the 7 inch (larger) and the item reduces the size to 6 inch opening."

A2: "the 7 inch side is female and the 6 inch side is male."

Obviously I need to know WHICH is correct! (HomeDepot has GOT to 'police' these Q&A areas for INCORRECT info and DELETE them! I'd also like to know why is it impossible to FOLLOW-UP on a Q&A? We can't even THANK the people that reply!)

Also, incredibly, the second most important spec is left out! What is the LENGTH? (When looking at the image), the distance from the left side to the right?

Thanks.

I used this to reduce the range hood from a 7" opening in the ceiling to the 6" pipe that came with the range hood. With a little maneuvering, it actually went around the outside of the opening in the ceiling (and this opening was several decades old and looked every bit the part). I affixed it with the aluminum tape. Two weeks in, and everything is still affixed!
