A couple of the reviews said the fan was quiet and I think one said the fan was loud.

The display at Home Depot said 4.0 sones is LOUD and 2.0 sones is fairly quiet. Is it loud or quiet?

3.5 sones seems pretty loud...(?)

Answer:
Loudness is very subjective, which is why they specify sones. If 3.5 sones seems loud to you then go for a lower sones unit.

Answer:
I just installed mine and it was very quiet. My old one sounded like an old industrial vent fan and made horrid sounds (probably bad bearings). The new one is about as loud as the cooling fan on a laptop.

Answer:
Thank you for your question about our model 9427P. This unit can accept two-250W bulbs. They can both be infrared, or they can both be a “flood”-type light, or you can do one of each. You should not exceed the total of 500 Watts between the two bulbs. If you have additional questions, just dial 888-336-3948 and our Customer Service Department can assist you further. Thanks.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect fit into ceiling opening Tired purchasing just the fan motor--FAIL. Then decided to replace the entire unit-WIN! I ordered it on-line at about 4PM on a Thursday and it was DELIVERED at 3PM Friday--say what! Unbelievable. August 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by as expected The one detail I was annoyed about is that the exhaust port is at a fixed angle, and cannot be pivoted 90 degrees so that it points UP. I modified it by dremel-tool'ing it, cutting a groove out of the frame, drilled new bolt holes to hold the exhaust port, and managed to get it pointing upright. It was so close to being able to just disassemble and re-point-able, but NO: it is not meant to be adjustable...but I did it anyway. works as expected. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent fan for the money Installed easy enough. Fan pushes air affectively for our bathroom measuring about 6' x 5'. Only issue I had (and this was based on the location of the fan I replaced not the new unit) was that this unit is meant to be installed in the middle of the joist/truss/rafter bay. My old unit was attached to the one truss. Once I attached some blocking the issue was resolved. Just beware if your buying this for replacement. April 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well but it was a pain to install I am an older person and I thought that this would be in easy install. It took longer than expected but came out well and works great. The only downside was their instructions on wiring options. They were confusing at best and the documentation was so so. I think it would have been better if they put the schematic that is on a sticker inside the fan housing and printed that in the instructions. The reason I got this product is because I has a similar product from the same manufacturer that I put into this bathroom 29 years ago. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan Other than the fact I had no idea how much work is involved with installing an exhaust fan into existing construction it is AWESOME! October 13, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty good unit so far. Good unit. Does not seem any noisier than most fans. Will be good to have the extra heat in the winter for showering. August 25, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan - on the louder side though If you're looking for a soft, quiet hush fan, this is not it. But if you're looking for an effective fan that lasts for years, this may be what you're looking for. May 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Here's the catch Lots of reviews out there about the wiring diagram. As an electrician, I assure you, the wiring diagram is exactly correct. I can also tell you that it is complicated to read for the average user. One major difference with this unit from other units, you need constant power to the unit to cycle the cooling fan when it's in heat mode. That means you need constant power, three switch legs, and neutral. In my opinion the downside to this unit is the exhaust fan being pretty small. But it is exactly what you should expect in this price range. January 22, 2015
