Do you need to use wood chip mulch on top of it to also block weeds and/or look good? If yes, how many inches? Thank you!

Answer:
Since the product is made out of naturally biodegrading straw and a very thin biodegradable poly (1 year), it will to a very small extent act similar to a mulch, but should not be considered as a mulch alternative.

Answer:
I used steel stake for regular blanket. This worked to some extent but if it is really windy, you got to be lucky. Better to use more stake per blanket. May be around 15 to 20 stakes per blanket,

I understand stakes/staples are available for this. We did not use any and in places they would have been nice.

Will this netting help "anchor" pine straw on a steep bank?

Sister's and neighbor's dogs play and slide down the bank, pushing pine straw to bottom of retaining wall. The bank is in front yard by driveway, so it always looks bad. The retaining wall is old crossties, and is beginning to feel the weight of dirt behind it, since I can't keep any kind of erosion control on it. Really don't want any kind of planting on the bank - I'm too old and tired to keep it up!

The Straw Blanket will need to be replaced every year for continued control if no other plants are present.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 32 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Would have been much easier to use loose straw. I tried to find some bales of straw for some medium sized patches of ground that I'm growing grass on. Finding less than 100 bales of straw isn't very easy around Buffalo, NY, and I don'thave the time to go searching for it. I had my kids help me put it down which made it much, much easier but still a pain. Now there's a couple sections where I over-seeded some thin grass and let this mat go over since it would have been more work to cut the excess anyways. I rarely have to walk over this area and however I get stuck on it because of the netting. Also, it's very difficult to get the straw out of the netting to use loosely. I regret the purchase and wish Home Depot sold straw in this area. June 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Watch out for Small Animals! Great product, easy installation. My grass germinated in about 8 days using these and plenty of water. My only hesitation on this product is that the green plastic mesh has snared multiple small animals in our yard (we live in a pretty wooded area). I've cut out multiple garden snakes from the mesh, some had strangled themselves already, others I was able to rescue. I hope the mesh degrades quickly or the effort to rip it all out will have me come back and re-review. June 21, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by my experience with this purchase I bought 5 bundles of this product. Of the 5, three of them ripped by the wind after installing and blanket lost its straw coverage for lot of my seeded areas. Though I used steel blanket pins to hold the product, they couldn't withstand heavy winds. But 2 blankets stayed well. They sustained wind which blew between 22 to 26 mph. I guess they are not consistent in quality. Moreover, I'm not convinced with my purchase. I thought I picked right line after some research. I rate 2 out 5 for this product as only 2 blankets survived the weather. I request the product makers to attach some tag to unroll the product easily. It was little hard to find the head to start unrolling May 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Two products in one! I have a slight incline in my backyard which makes it hard to keep seed in place during growth. I ordered the 8ft x 112.5ft and it covered my whole backyard with some left over! The UPS guy left the roll at my door and ran off but I was able to carry it to my backyard on my own as well as lay it down on my own. Hardest part was cutting to fit the lawn but that was only in a couple of areas. My grass seed is growing and I found that this blanket also can be used to catch snakes! EGADS!! The netting caught two black snakes that were dead when I saw them. I feel horrible for the snakes, not a nice way to exit the world! I'm not sure if I'm supposed to keep the blanket down forever or if I remove it once the grass starts to grow. If anyone knows, let me know :) - Anyway, it seems to be doing what it is meant to do and I would recommend it. May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must have, for large areas I recently planted a hill with prairie grass and wild flowers, so I figured putting down an erosion blanket would be faster and better than using straw bales and having loose straw all over the hill, considering it has to be in place all winter. It would have definitely been easier, with a second person, but I had no problems laying the blanket, by myself (other than a sore back). The hardest part was cutting pieces to fit the remaining area to be covered, once the main strip was laid. I did run out, but I think with better planning and less overlapping (and a second person), I might have been able to cover it all. If I ever do something like this, again, I will be buying another of these erosion blankets. This erosion blanket is well worth the money. I highly recommend getting about 100 landscape staples, to hold the blanket down. As I was working, the wind picked up and rolled up part of the blanket I didn't have stapled, yet. October 7, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good! I ordered 3 rolls of this material and it arrived at my doorstep in a quicker than expected fashion. I was able to unroll by myself but it would have been much easier with two people. The last 4 feet or so of the roll was the most time consuming. Seems to cover the ground well but I was hoping for a little more straw to be weaved in with the netting. Great price compared to what others are advertising. Make sure to get plenty of stakes to hold it down! May 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Recently Installed First off, great product for the price. Most comparative rolls were nearly twice as much. this has a nice layer of straw and seems quite durable during install. Covered about 4500 sq ft area with about 500 staples, found those cheaper elsewhere, it was amazoning. Using for seeding product, holds moisture well, blanket is doing its job, hopefully seeds will do theirs. Does unroll very easy except for about the last 20 feet or so. One person can do the job, but two people make the last part of the roll much less frustrating. Take care when cutting the blanket. It will seemed cut, but some of the fiber strands don't cut all the way through, so check befor you walk off with removed material. July 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the blankets! I've used these straw blankets many times. I keep reading concerns about the nylon weave but I have NEVER had to pull up the nylon. I mow right over it as soon as grass is tall/thick enough to need it. If any of the nylon ever gets near blades, which is rare because it hugs ground, it breaks up easily because it degrades. Love the stuff and am looking today to buy a couple more rolls for newly landscaped area. March 3, 2015
