Building a 200' fence using wooden Gothic fencing panels from Home Depot. Approximately how many pounds of screws would be needed for this project?
Asked by: OldHickory
If you use 3 runners and minimal spacing between pickets (assuming a 3.5 inch width), you will need 6 screws per board, 200 feet is 2,400 inches, divided by 3.5 inches per picket gives you 686 pickets, times 6 screws comes to 4,116 screws. If you use 2 runners instead of 3 then you need 2,744 screws. Basically you want to use 2 screws per board to attach to each cross bar, a single screw will allow the pickets to twist and might even pop the screw out so I strongly suggest 2 screws per board per runner. Good luck with the project!

Is this a good length to screw two 3/8" 5'x5' Baltic Birch plywood sections together?

Asked by: Jo
Two boards 3/8" thick only come to 3/4" total...so this screw is almost twice as long. If you are trying to attach the panels end to edge as if making a box then these screws will tear through the sidewall as the 3/8" thickness is too thin for such a thick screw, instead a brad nailer or 3/4" staple might be a lot easier. If you intend to stick the sheets back to back to make a thicker slab, use wood glue spread with a paint scraper so it is even and thin, that will do you a lot better than a screw in most cases.

Why don't you carry the combo Phillips/Square drive deck screws anymore

The only screw on the planet that will stay on the end of a non-magnetized driver allowing you to start it one-handed! And now you switch to star drive that requires two hands when the combo drive is still available you just choose not to carry it! Guess it's back to online shopping free shipping and no sales tax and you guys miss out.

I have used all the lengths both with an impact driver as well as a normal drill and these screws do not break. I know a short screw doesn't get as much torque but even at the 3-1/2" and 4" this brand is foolproof. An added bonus is no staining on any type of wood and no color/finish chipping or rust, some of mine have been outside for years on tables and other furniture.

After using several other similar screws on fencing, I have finally settled on using these for attaching fence boards. I like these because they don’t rust or cause a stain on the fence board after time. The finish seems to stay intact after screwing these in better than the Phillip’s head screws do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deck screws and drill bit included I've used a lot of these screws for putting up fence boards and other various projects around the house. I like these because they don't rust and they come with their own perfect fit screwdriver bit for your drill in the 1 lb. box. I find these are a good quality screw for all outdoor applications.
