Regular size socket, but you need it the be big enough to hold a flood type bulb. You could put it in your regular socket but you would have to leave off the fixture cover.

Answer:
The beam spread on this item is a wide flood. Distance to the plant is dependent on the type of plant and it will change during the gestational cycle. For more complete details email orders@lsgc.com with plant information.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good for greenhouse I ordered this light to replace another. When I got it popped it in and monitored my gutokola plant Under this light in a few days and nights I noticed more growth then the previous light I had The bulb is decent with good heat sink to keep LEDs cool the light profile mixes red and white with blue shift to create a nice full spectrum light that on on my plant caused vary noticeable growth so I plan to get more of these lights because of marked growth improvements February 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Lamp and exceptional value I'm always impress with LED general lighting bulbs. But with the PAR38 LED grow lamp, I'm utterly thankful. First of all, most horticultural grow lamps or growing light systems are really, really expensive. They can run up to hundreds and thousands of dollars. A single quality grow lamp can cost upward of $100 dollars. I'm a home gardener, I can't afford such expensive lamp for my hobby. With the PAR38 LED Broad Spectrum Grow Lamp, I can start my plants indoor a bit early. Once the seeds germinate, the tiny seedlings require a light source to develop well. Nothing can substitute for good sunlight, but with the PAR38 LED grow lamp, it's possible to grow some plants indoor. When I install the the PAR38 LED bulb, I can tell the light is bit different from my regular household light. The light brightens up with vibrant colors. Even my iphone camera was able to capture the hue spectrum. The lamp (bulb) doesn't require any special attachment. It screws in just like a normal light bulb. You can affix it to any of your existing light fixture. In addition, the PAR38 lamp is LED, so it will last a long time. Traditional grow lamps only last about 5 years. And the cost to replace them are expensive to say the least. Finally I'm able to find something that suit my needs. Not to mention the great value. Great lamp. Thanks. February 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We have a winner! I'm pretty sure this light works. After I bought the lamp holder and put this on my garden starts in one of our spare rooms, the plant bent towards the LED light! Make no mistake, there was a "grow" light already there. But this bulb gave a better light! As they say, the proof is in the pudding! I've attached pictures of the lamp in use and the happy plant growing towards it! February 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing I wish I had a before picture of my sad little Basil. Since using the grow light bulb it has turned into a thriving, healthy plant. Will probably buy more bulbs for indoor seed starting. February 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Results Have Been Phenomenal! I have plants I bring indoors for the winter and have been looking for lights to keep them growing through he winter as each winter I seem to lose a considerable number of them. This light has made all the difference in keeping the leaves green and healthy for the winter, so far. December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by High initial outlay, but should be worth it over time For plant growing applications. You will be pleased with the high quality of this bulb. It's bright white output provides spectrally optimized light to produce the strongest plants. As with any LED light, the average lifespan claims won't be proven for many years, and the initial investment for this one is high. However for the serious plant hobbyist or gardener, this should be a good choice. April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Bulb For Violets This bulb replaces several cumbersome fluorescent tubes over our violets. A little pricey but worth it. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bright Grow Light This LED grow light is extremely bright. I have used it to start seedlings for my garden, trying to get a jump on traditional harvest dates by starting plants from my own seeds indoors and then transplanting once the weather permits. The LED grow light puts out a wide spectrum of light that you can actually see. My plants have done well under this light which is used about 12 hours per day. It is cool to the touch as well.
