Customer Questions & Answers

Can this column be cut to size ?

Asked by: Anonymous
I cut mine with a hack saw to my required length will very little problem. Use a good, new blade and carefully measure and mark before starting to cut.... The material is harder than wood but softer than steel or galvanized posts.

Where can I get these Afco Columns ? Its unavailable in home depot and lowes stores and online...

Asked by: GK
I web-searched the company name, dimensions, and description, all together, and found one company that has them and ships them free to most of the continental USA. Unfortunately, Home Depot does not allow respondents to give website URLs or other contact info, so, you'll have to do it yourself (copy-paste the product title should work, but make sure ALL the info is there; if something's missing, then manually type it in to the web search box).

I see that the end caps attach to the column, but do I attach the column to anything or does is just prop between the floor and ceiling?

Asked by: Anonymous
If it is to be somewhat load bearing, all that is necessary is to let the weight hold it in place. If it doesn't carry any weight, you will need to use something like a small L bracket to hold it in place.

Neef size 10ft x 10in

Asked by: edo
Hi edo, it looks like that this 8 ft. x 6 in. Aluminum Square Column with Cap and Base is a store exclusive item and only able to be bought in a Home Depot store. Unfortunately we do not sell it with online stock for purchase. If you are unable to see the store inventory or price it is most likely either not a stocked item in your area or no longer available for purchase from Homedepot.com. I would advise you visit or contact your local Home Depot store for pricing and availability. Please follow the steps below to localize your Homedepot.com: 1. Localize Homedepot.com using your zip code (My Store Location: Change) 2. Choose the store where you want to pick up the item (Make this my Store) We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot!

Customer Reviews

8 ft. x 6 in. Aluminum Square Column with Cap and Base is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and strong This product is load bearing! It might not look strong, but it will support 23000 lbs. If you are using it for load bearing on wood beams, order the load plates so the thin aluminum doesn't sink into the wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and easy do it yourself I needed to replace 3 wood columns that were in bad shape on my concrete porch. These were perfect and installation couldn't have been easier. Each column arrived in a fairly flat box and needed to be assembled. The men on my volunteer crew all thought I would need 4x4 inserts, metal plates, and lots of heavy tools. None of those items were needed. Snapping the column together took a mallet but once together - the seam isn't even visible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AFCO Square Aluminum load bearing columns I have used this product which supports an attic room over a concrete patio slab all attached to the back of my house. I used (4) AFCO aluminum posts with the end cap kits so that the columns do not sink into the pine base supports. The other end sits on concrete slab with alloy end cap. I used the full eight foot length of the square column. My back porch looks palacial with the nice white enamel finish posts! It's a wonderful easy to use product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased one years ago, buying another today Very easily assembled and installed. I strongly disagree with the review that states that they are not well built or sturdy. The wall dimensions are adequate to support a considerable axial load. My current load is somewhere between 1 and 3 tons (the 1 ton jack would not lift the roof section, but the 3 ton jack did easily). The interior nor the ends are filled/enclosed, but can be with several products. My only complaint is that my local HD no longer stocked the item so will have to drive to another store (10 miles) that does.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from these are not even real colums. I looked for porch columns. I found these on Home Depot website so I ordered them. When I got to the store, I found that they are made very cheaply and are only a cosmetic column. They will not support a load.
